RE: What Did You Want To Do When You Were A Kid?

in #life7 years ago

When I first signed on, I think I was directed to the Steemit FAQ. I know I saw it and read through a lot of it. I've been back to refer to it a few times, too. Same thing with the Steemit etiquette posts.

Thing is, I think some of that stuff, if not a lot of it, has been translated in the last little while. I know I saw a post about a chunk of something being translated into several different languages. So, if they're being directed to it when they sign on for the first time, I agree, there's little excuse for not sitting down and taking the time to read it.

So far, I'm noticing that the same people don't comment again on my posts, which also works. :)

English certainly is the preferred language here, but that might be because it's all I understand haha I've noticed on different Discord channels, requests and offers to translate different things. It would be great if there eventually was a multilingual network whose sole purpose was to make this platform easily accessible for every spoken language. Now there's a task!

There's an upside to everything!

Maybe the communities upgrade we were just updated about will help with that. If you have communities based on different languages, people can go in and get some form of orientation in their native language.

I really don't mind everyone who can coming to where they think the rewards are. And since I know another language, I know how difficult it can be to learn one that isn't nearly as hard to grasp as English is. So, I understand to a degree what people are trying to do and I sympathize. Unfortunately, you still have to be able to communicate.

While I probably could, I haven't been hanging out where the Spanish folks are congregating, and it's because writing in Spanish competently is what I feel the least comfortable in. Maybe I will get over there one of these days, but English is my native tongue and so I don't have to think nearly as much about sentence structure or what words to use because it's more automatic.

Maybe there will be instruction at some point on the STEEM ecosystem where folks can go and learn how to speak and write in another language. Maybe that's already happening?

In one of the Discord channels I'm in, there's a Spanish speaking 'channel' and translator for those English speaking people involved. I bet there's a lot more around that we both are unaware of.

Oh, no doubt. It's finding it that is generally the issue. Discord isn't really STEEM ecosystem, but a third party app that people here like to use. And of course, Ginabot has been tied into the platform enough to give us messages, so it's pretty useful.

At whatever point things like that find there way into the UI of Steemit or Busy, so that you can find the communities, groups and the guilds, it will be great. One stop shopping.

I know we're supposed to be decentralized here, but when it comes to using an online blogging site, it's nice to have access to everything you might want at your finger tips, even if that link your clicking still takes you offsite.

It seems like so many are creating apps, but really, I too would like to see a one stop shop. steemworld is the closest I've found because @steemchiller, its' creator, just added notifications to it as well. I'm not sure if you use it, but it's one of those 'must-haves' for me.

I do use it. It's one of the apps I have open all the time. It is absolutely the most comprehensive and easy to use app I've found dealing with information or stats for what I'm doing on Steemit. In fact, nothing else really compares. :)

If it were integrated into Steemit, or vice versa, it would be awesome. I'd still need to have at least two windows open (one on Steemworld and then the Steemit pages), but then it would be a lot faster to get to everything when I set up in the morning.

I haven't been using the mentions tab, but maybe I will. It's cool to have all those in one place, too. I've been relying on Ginabot for mentions and other kinds of messages, but they can get lost in whatever might be coming in. That's another window I have open.

If something like Discord could be integrated into the UI of Steemit or something like it, then the trifecta of input app, stat app and chat/messenger app would be complete.

Where were you when this was all being developed? :) I too have tabs open all over the place; it tends to get a bit unruly at times, but it's a way for me to 'remember' everything and everyone I'm supposed to get back to.

I was probably back at school when Steemit launched, but I was here in July of 2016 because my friend @bbrewer mentioned it to me then. I remember taking a look at it and for whatever reasons not following through.

As it is, I think the issue is we're dealing with decentralization, which is great for its intended purposes, but no so great when it comes to development. People are kind of left to their own devices to develop things that may or may not ever get funded. I'm sure steemchiller and others don't get compensated, at least not directly, for their apps. Hopefully as witnesses, which is an additional layer of work and responsibility, they're at least getting compensated something.

I generally try to read through things as quickly as possible so I don't have to keep individual posts open to read later. I haven't gotten so bogged down that I felt it necessary. Of course, I could be the one creating the need since I'm somewhat prolific when it comes to writing words on a post and comment. :)
