More Fortune Cookie Wisdom

Yeah, I Went Back To Panda

I probably should buy less food I guess, because once again, I got two fortunes. Unlike the first time I reported on this, though, neither of these latest fortunes created deep reflection.

In my original post on this topic, I wondered if there was someone in the Chinese restaurant that could predict what fortune I might most associate with because it seemed like the fortunes I got resonated with me in some fashion.

Well, either the employee in charge of fortune dispersal at our local Panda Express needs a new predictor prescription, or they were out the day I went and the substitute wasn't very good.

Take a look at this first one, and I'll comment below.

Thanks Panda Express fortune cookie fortune, but you're about seven weeks late.

Yeah, so, the only thing I've ventured into that might fit the definition of "novelty" is Steemit and STEEM. That happened at the very end of December, so this fortune isn't very helpful. I guess I could choose to get out now, but I'm kind of hooked. And for me, the novelty of this place is starting to wear off. It's becoming more real.

What about this other part, though. Just what does it mean, "Stick to things as they are?" In this day and age, we're having enough of a problem figuring out what truth is and what isn't, or what's good and what's not. If I stick to things as they are, I feel like I'm in more trouble.

Unless this is an ancient fortune rooted in fundamental, primordial, unchanging fact. As in, strip away all of man's meddling and posing and posturing, and whatever is left represents "things as they are."

If that's the case, my respect for Panda fortune cookie fortunes must go up several notches. But it still doesn't help me with the novelties deal. I don't go with the flow very often, or ride each wind of change.

Still, I do like trying things some people might consider novelties. Comic books, garbage cans with motion sensors, the Amazon Echo (Alexa), and I've been wanting a Roomba for a long time. And now, I'm here on Steemit, the blogging platform where you can at least get paid something, in a crypto that you can eventually use (or cash out after a few steps). I would say, that's as novel as it gets.

But aren't all those things "...as they are?" I mean they really exist. I might be in the minority when it comes to their use, but the fortune doesn't say, "Stick to the mainstream." If it did, I'd probably stop going to Panda. Which is probably something I should do, anyway.

So, I don't know. This fortune has me thinking about things, I guess. Just not as deeply as the previous two did.

Okay. This one is wrong in so many ways.

This isn't the first time I've received this kind of fortune, and as I read it again, I realize it's not really saying anything. In fact, it's redundant. Isn't the definition of an admirer someone who thinks highly of you? What did I learn here? Someone who's admired me for a long time still thinks I'm the cat's meow.

Fine. I guess.

This doesn't do a whole lot for me, fortune cookie fortune. I'd rather know who the long time admirer is, know why they think highly of me, and determine if it's actually warranted. So, unless you're prepared to give me a name, I choose to ignore you.

Come to think of it, maybe it's for the best that I don't know. Because it could get awkward really fast. I don't like awkward. It's, well...awkward.

Kind of like the ending of this post. It isn't really ending. There's not much of a conclusion. It's kind of meh. Like the fortunes.

Okay, I'll stop.
