How to deal with rage before it leads to violence
Life is so full of ups and downs at the moment that I currently feel as if I am at the top of a roller-coaster waiting to go down the hill. If you hear anyone screaming and possibly kicking you should know that it is me!
I am outraged. I feel violated and upset all at the same time. Has anyone ever felt this way? Let me tell you that it is not an enjoyable feeling. I have this uncontrollable feeling of rage and frustration all at the same time. I decided to write a post about this so that I can try and make sense of what is going on in my mind.
What is rage?
Rage (often called fury or frenzy) is a feeling of intense, violent, or growing anger. It is sometimes associated with the fight-or-flight response, and is often activated in response to an external cue, such as an event that impacts negatively on the person. The phrase "thrown into a fit of rage" expresses the immediate nature of rage that occurs before deliberation. If left unchecked, rage may lead to violence.
South Africa is not the safest country to live in. The crime rate is skyrocketing and Saturday night, while we were sleeping, burglars broke into our house and once again stole most of our stuff that we replaced after the previous break in on 23 December 2016.
I have never been a scared person. I have always been open minded and I know that some things in life is just unfortunate.
I am now past the stage where I am scared. I am scared out of my mind. The mere fact that someone broke into our house while we were sleeping violates my trust in the world. I am angry. Angry that people think they can just walk in and take what does not belong to them.
The saddest sentence that makes me the angriest is this:
Luckily no one was hurt......
This was not an accident. This was a deliberate attack on our privacy.
Humanity is sick. People are sick and it is just getting worse. We have all the security measures in place. We have an alarm system. We have dogs we have armed response, but they still got in.....
I am at a loss for words. I don't know what to do to protect my family. Can you even imagine that someone opens a window above your head while you are sleeping and just grabbing phones from your bedside table?
I can promise you one thing. This will not happen again. Not in my lifetime. If this is the last thing that I do on earth then so be it, but I will not let my kids live in fear. If any unwelcome guests step foot in my yard again. They will regret it. My anger will go over to violence in a matter of seconds.
Enough is enough!

Many share your frustration!
I can't even explain how violated I feel. To be inside the house when they just take your hard earned stuff. Really makes me mad!
This has happened to me as well. Sadly there is always some risk. The only house in my neighbourhood that is 100% safe from thieves is a biker clubhouse, but even they have to worry about police and rival gangs. (I suspect they're more worried than I am).
Minimise your exposure as much as possible, repair the breech in your security (they are going to come back), and try to find a way to come to terms with the fact that living in the world just entails some risk.
Good luck!
We are doing everything that we can to make ourselves safe. I am just overwhelmed at this stage. Am just fed up!
Pity you are not allowed to leave heads on stakes outside your property anymore!
Oh my goodness that is exactly how I feel. I would line them up in rows!
Hopefully it will get better in the future. We are not going to last long if it goes on like this.
I am just angry. It will get better at some point. I just need to get my head around it somehow. Just fedup!
Totally agree. Hope you are OK
Hi Ian...yes I am ok. I just feel totally violated. It makes me so angry that people can just walk in here and take whatever. I am really getting scared to live here. This is the second time in six weeks. I can understand that people just pack up and move to other countries. If I could move tomorrow I would. I do not feel safe here anymore.
I used to go to Kenya every year at xmas for 3 weeks to a month and never felt threatened. Admittedly mine was a beach holiday primarily taking in a two day safari . I do miss Kenya but that is East Africa and once contemplated to buy and live there when I retire. Oddly enough I have never been to South Africa mainly for the problems you have stated. I had a guy who was a white South Afican who worked for me for 4 years and the stories just put me off completely. He said he had left a home because gangs would attack his residence so frequently it became impossible to live and he left without a penny. Personally in the UK we don't get much information what is happening but to live not knowing what is round the corner must be worrying.
We have been talking a lot and to me you are a lovely friend who always has kind words but I still do not know your name. Take Care
Hi Ian. My name is Yvette. We live in a lovely town on the coast. Beautiful peaceful area with a great seaview. I love this place. It is just lately that it has been hectic here. Crime rate has shot up suddenly. We do have regular patrols here and we have armed response. We also have guns and the precautions are in place. They apparently burn a cd to make people sleep deeply. Then they simply break in and take whatever they want. Sad what is happening and I am scared for my kids growning up here. I will motivate them to go and find jobs in safer countries. No future for them here anymore. I am just negative about everything now. Will soon feel better. Thanks for your concern my friend. Lovely to chat with you!😘
