Emotional intelligence vs IQ

As promised here is my second part of my series on emotional intelligence.  If you missed the first one please click here to read the post.

What's the Difference Between IQ and Emotional intelligence?

IQ is a number derived from a standardized intelligence test.  Read that sentence again.  IQ is derived from a standardized intelligence test.  Standardized. In the early 1970's and 80's an IQ score, derived from a standardized test were calculated by dividing a person's mental age by his chronological age.  That number was then multiplied by 100.  So someone with a mental age of 15 and a chronological age of 10 would then have an IQ of 150.

I have my own view about any standardized test.  Not everyone is good at everything.  I also believe that an IQ could change over time. If you do not stimulate your intelligence then you will get stuck in a rut.  We always have to try and better ourselves intellectually.  We should never stop learning.

Emotional intelligence has everything to do with your emotions and how you handle a situation.  Emotional intelligence has nothing to do with your intellect.

Emotional intelligence is far more important than your intellect.

Your IQ might get you the job interview, but your EQ gets you the job!

The smartest people are not always the best candidates for a job.  Many people have talked their way into a job. If you have self confidence and the ability to connect with people then chances are that you have a high emotional intelligence.  Smarter people often do not want to start at the bottom.   Because of their qualifications they often think that they are above certain jobs.  They are also not willing to work in groups as they feel superior.

If you are a flexible person then you show a positive attitude.  Positive attitudes are far more important than intellect.  You can teach a monkey sign language if you have to.

We all have the great pleasure to work with different kinds of people on a daily basis.  The sooner that someone realizes that they need to change to fit in the better.

Change is good!

Train your brain to accept change.  It is very important to accept change.  You can even initiate changes in your life from time to time.  We get so stuck in our ways that we believe that this is the only way to do something.  I dare you to change one little thing that you do on a daily basis, and even that should make a big difference in your life.  Even if you only feel better then you have achieved something.

Imagine a world where everything was just the same every single day.  How boring would life be?

Change the way you think about something/someone.  Try a new food.  Make a positive change and you will reap the benefits.

Conclusion:

At the end of the day it is all about being a balanced person.  Emotional stability in combination with your intellect, makes you a successful person.

Changes are what is fun with life, IMO :)

IQ tests test knowledge in different ways and all scores line up almost all the time. Its not a normal standardized test.
IQ is about 50% genetics and 50% environment. We have proven you can change it no belief necessary.

Only a few mental syndromes get you a different one on different tests.
