In a way, the people that break your trust are just programming and conditioning you to have less faith in them. If you look at it that way, then they have control over you because your distrust is just a reaction to their behavior.
I'm not saying it's wrong to distrust people. It's a protection mechanism. It is, however, wrong to say that trust is impossible to repair. Trusting someone is as easy as making a decision to do so. It's just that most people aren't aware enough to realize that they can take their trust into their own hands and place it wherever they want to instead of allowing it to be a reaction to another person's behavior.
