Prison Break Filming Locations: Was It Actually Filmed in Yemen?

The new 5th season of Prison Break happens in a Yemeni prison. Once again, Michael Scofield manages to find his way out of prison. Even though I have lived all my life in my home country, Iran, which is situated in the Middle East, I have to confess I don’t know anything about Yemen. The series showed very interesting locations and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was really Yemen. I found a great article about filming locations of Prison Break and I found out that it was actually filmed around Vancouver (Canada) and in Morocco.

Michael is in a prison in Yemen, with spectacular views to the skyline of Sana'a—a beautiful capital of a country afflicted with a devastating war.

These parts were filmed for three weeks in Morocco—in Casablanca, Rabat and Ouarzazate. The Ibn Al-Haytham Technical School in Ouarzazate served as the Yemeni penitentiary.

The sets of the jail were built at Burnaby’s Bridge Studios and Safeway Distribution Centre (British Columbia).

The scenes in a railway station were shot in Canada, near the vintage wagons of the Pacific Central Station in Vancouver. In fact, there are no trains in Yemen.

The Chinese J.B.'s Sandwich Bar in Vancouver was staged as a coffee restaurant in the Middle East.

Sara’s house in New York State is located in West 19th Avenue (Vancouver).

Lincoln's house is in Ontario Street.

Another location for filming was the Mountain View Cemetery.

A scene from the first episode was filmed at the Vancouver International Airport.

Another confirmed location is the Eagle Harbour Yacht Club in West Vancouver.

Some scenes were filmed in New Westminster. Some of them are the City Hall (pictured), the Anvil Centre and the Justice Institute of British Columbia.

Some of filming took place in Coquitlam in the area of the Riverview Mental Hospital, and near Mary Hill Bypass.
