Scenes From Coeur d'Con

A Few Photos From My First Foray Into Cosplay

IMG_3217.JPG

Last fall, a good friend of mine asked if my husband and I would attend Coeur d'Con with our group of weekly game players in full cosplay. I'd never attended any type of "con" and had never ventured into the world of cosplay, but was intrigued by the idea and agreed to go.

Tonight I'm on my phone and am still out and about, so I thought I would share some pictures from the new world I delved into. Tomorrow I will tell the tale of what actually befell my party in today's dress up adventure in more detail. Until then, I hope you enjoy some of the sights from the event!

And as is pretty much the norm when I'm out and about, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's really good at nerd trivia iPhone

Those are quite the costumes! I used to love dressing up as a kid. However, the outfits were never comfortable to wear for long.

You are so right! My costume wasn't too overly uncomfortable, but my poor friend that was Harley Quinn was pretty warm, and those poor folks that dress up as furries, I don't even know how they stand it, it was almost ninety outside! Thankfully in the library it was air conditioned, but I still felt for them!

You all look like you were having so much fun. I should look into that kind of thing for Vancouver. I think my son would love it:)

It was such a blast! They had youth and teen divisions for the cosplay contest and fan art, and the kids did such an amazing job on their costumes and artwork!

It looks like you have a couple of con events up your way, one big one in October. If your guy is into art, gaming, sci-fi, and/or fantasy then I am sure he would have a blast!

Hope all is going well for you up there:) It rained here last night, but our smoke from the fires is just horrid.

We are crossing our finger for the zombie march:) The smoke is here but the ocean filters things out a little. Its really just making things a little cooler. I imagine inland it is not so pleasant.

How fun! Love the steampunk getups! And I'm guessing the Kat was in a blonde wig? Although I'm not enough of a gamer to know which character you were dressed as... But anyway, Halloween and costume parties were totally my thing before having kids. My hubby went to school in Hollywood for Special fx Makeup, even worked on the set of Angel (Spinoff of Buffy), so we had some pretty cool custom prosthetics. Anywa, glad you had fun and looking forward to seeing more and reading about your adventures!

Ah! Yet another thing we have in common! Steampunk is my fave:) I have an entire Pinterest board devoted to steampunk couture and future Kat costumery, lol!

And how incredibly awesome that you have a special fx artiste in your household, nice! I bet you two had a blast during your dress up days:)

My friends are super into anime, so we went as the Seven Deadly Sins. They decided that I should be Meliodas (AKA Wrath) because apparently I am really easy going and sweet, but they think I might be terrifying if I am angered, lol! I have never actually watched the show, but apparently a lot of the attendees of the con did cause I got to be in a lot of pictures, ha ha!

I do hope all is well up north:)

Aside from being stuck in stagnant air as thick as pea soup, we're great! Had to make a run to Liberty Lake to pick up some woodworking gadget my husband "needed" (much like I need another kitchen gadget😆) and since yesterday's reports showed their air quality being much better than ours, decided to make it a family road trip. Well, it all got nasty during the trip- as you probably know since we passed through CDA and it was bad there too. To give you an example, on the way South we could NOT see the edges of the lake while crossing the long bridge. On the way home, we couldn't even see the water. Looks like this screen-free family will be doing some special video game/ipad school activities this week. Going to try some type of family activity learning about rain dances to help clean the air! 😁

That is one big ass hammer!

Don't worry, I will be talking about that gigantic means of smacking in the near future, your artwork was amazing😊

Very nice post my friend @generikat

That looks like a whole lot of fun. Never been to a cosplay officially, though I was a Shell No Pest Strip twice for All Hallow's Eve. And accused of being the King of the Beanie Babies in the process, but don't think that counts. Looking forward to more explanado about his fun event. Though I am pretty sure I know which one is a b'Kat. I hope the hair-dye came out before you had to go mess with cow and bull coiffature's. Keep on keepin' on and smilin whilst you do it...dd da homeboyskillette

There's a Kat in this picture!

Oh yeah? I stared at those three costumed figures and decided the blonde had your smile and stature, but blonde?! That's just weird.

Looks like a blast! Reminds me of the Renaissance Festival... But like 500 years after lol.

I have never done cos either but am fascinated by this world. I think I could take a liking to it as I am a huge Halloween buff. I enjoy everything about costumes, the ideas, the process, the transformation. I even swindled my parents into letting me dress them up one Halloween and did their make up for them. Ha ha ha! Looks like you had a great time. Looking forward to seeing how it all played out. -Aimee
