WE GOT PUPPIES!

IMG_2528 (2).JPG

Last week our daughter got on a plane with my mom and flew to Arizona to meet my dad. The purpose of this grandparent road trip for our girl was to get herself a puppy that my dad had found for her. Long story short, the acquire the German Shepherd mix puppy road trip operation was to start with a flight from Spokane to Phoenix, continue with a drive to Colorado, and finish with a mad dash from Colorado back to Idaho with the new pup.

The planned part of the puppy retrieval mission went as conceptualized, meet Leilani, or Lani dog for short:

As exciting as the prospect of having one new family member was for us, we would have never dreamed of the next part that occurred. Saturday was my turn to run the library. The phone rang while I worked my shift, and as I took the phone from @jacobtothe, I recognized the number as my mother's. My heart lurched a bit as I wondered if something major had happened for my mom to be calling me at work. It was something major alright, they found our dream dog and wanted to know if they could bring it home for us.

Both my husband and I have wanted a corgi or a cowboy corgi (heeler/corgi) cross for years. We figured it would appeal to my desire to have a dog of maximum derpiness and his want of a friend that snuggled. Any dog with the word corgi in its breeding is costly, and honestly we are fond of adopting shelter dogs over paying for pets. That said, when my mom told me that my dad's boss' son was going to give us a little cowboy corgi of our choice, I was slightly elated!

So, there I found myself on my break at work picking out our puppy from pictures my mom had texted me. It was an easy choice, as soon as I saw this little girl it was all over:

Puppy selected and in route to us with my family and our other new pup, the hard part began. My parents wanted to surprise my husband with the pup as a thank you for him plumbing their cabin. Plus, my family just likes surprises. Let me tell you, it was massively hard to keep that secret for three whole days with an onslaught of video calls, texts, photos, and phone calls about how the trip was progressing, but

I DID IT!

My parents and daughter rolled into our driveway at 11pm last night. We all ran out to meet them, excited to meet Lani and see our girl and my parents again after a long week away. The look on my husband's face when they plunked the little corgi girl pup into his arms told me that the secret had been kept, for he asked me in a incredulous tone,

"What is this?"

"It's yours!" I blurted and we all had a good laugh, many rounds of hugs, and all sorts of puppy kisses.

In all reality, it was rather a bit of a circus event as we all crowded into our house to play with the puppies at the witching hour. My house was more than a bit full as I had let the three neighbor boys stay the night too. I think we all, pups included, crashed at about 2AM.

Today was a fun day of getting puppy shots, dewormer, and other new pet detritus. The girls have settled right into the fray that is our life, and even our old dog Chuck seems sort of happy to have the two little ones around. Both of the pups were born on the same day, and they both have also weaseled their way right into the feelz part our cardiovascular systems. As I type this Lani girl is laying on Chuck's bed surrounded by a sea of pet toys, and our corgi, whom I ceremoniously named Crazy Cora is stretched out upside down next to my husband's feet. Me thinks the Dog Days Of Summer shall be interesting for our family indeed!

My full upvote will go to the first Steemian to correctly guess and comment where I got my corgi-girl's name from!!

And as always, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's fully potty trained iPhone.

One of the best westerns ever...Quigley Down Under? ( :
I shall vote when my aquarium acquires more green votewater...I have spentith it all today. But I can comment away as par-usual'. Classic little pups. (Did you think of naming the other 'Roy')?
They look like a whole bundle-load of fun. Nothing in the world like puppers, to make the place a whole lot more fun and adventurous. They are SO cute. I'm amazed you were able to keep it a secret so long. Good job 'bK. Well, I will keep this short. MY bike is calling, and you have enough to do without responding to a 78 page Schteinnphest. Have fun with the new charges, as if THAT will be hard to do.
The Flat, Round Skillet of Home

Winner, winner, domestic skillet cooked dinner!!😆

I will return to fully address your most excelling mini-epistle, my poor car just got backed into among other things, yeowza! Laterz fried taters!

YIKES! I hope it isn't as bad as it sound!

Well, I was backed into and my whole bumper and headlight assembly will need to be replaced, but no one was hurt and now my new car has a story, lol!

Well done, my friend! I will add to Kat's vote :)

Thanks muchly, Mon. I got lucky. Or watch too many movies ( :

Ha haa, I love your announcement thingy ( : and Oh yaay to the YAAYTH Power. Though I might have had an 'in', knowing you love old movies and westerns so. That and Silverado, couple of the best ever. But that is a classic name, And appropriate for a bit of a budding nutter dog. Which I'm sure it shall be. Thanks for the nice vote, and have fun with the puppers.

Addendum: I just read your last part of the comment as I wrote, it came later..Bummer about the car. Don't worry about me, go do what ya gotta do. Keep it real as real can be real.

I would add Tombstone to my list! :) I love old Doc Holiday in that one lol.

The strain was more than he could bear. ha ha!

Oh yeah! There is a million great lines LOL.

"Why, Johnny Ringo, you look like somebody just walked over your grave" LOL

And The Outlaw Josie Wales. Good westerns are hard to find these days, besides the new Magnificent Seven. I saw a GREAT one recently, with Thomas Haden Church and Robert Duvall. Called Broken Trail. Sad testament to some nasty US history, but a good movie. A pizza, coupla root beers and a western or three, and I'm set.

Hiya!

My poor new car has a bit of a war wound, but alas, that is why insurance exists, I felt more sorry for the person who hit my car, they were traumatized!

Ah, Silverado, Tombstone, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Any movie with the Duke, the list goes on. I am actually quite fond of Open Range too, my whole family loves to call freeloaders "freegrazers" tons of fun, and my mom just told my dad to, "Shut up Lige!" Just the other day 😆

Thank ye for the doggo name approval, that means a lot coming from you:) I have to run as usual, and I am keeping it realer than realz can realize!

Ha haa, freegrazers. And Lige! Would have love to heard THAT one in the G.K. arena. Classic. He sure got his in the end, didn't he? Where HAVE all the great westerns gone? Glad you can get your car fixed, and pasta is $1.27/lb. Thought I'd complete that "kinda go'in anywhere" segue with one more totally un-related fact, just because. After all, it IS a Friday night.
Sorry about your new car. Are you going to put out a post about it? Might as well get SOME good out of the mis-hap. Feel bad for your friend/ family member that banged into it. Bummer.
Well Hasboro Cheesepuff, have a nice night. Hope it's a good one. Maybe this is game night. Or tomorrow...I cannot remember. Cheerio(s) H.S. ext

Well, I like random facts of non-relevance, because honestly, knowing the current price per pound of pasta could be a life saving fact at some point!

And ha ha, Hasboro Cheesepuff is probably the favorite random moniker that has been thrown my way ever! I felt a bit like a puff of diminutive cheese yesterday when I was at my friend's daughter's graduation party. Their son was back on leave for the event and I found myself surrounded by his 6'4" self and his friend who is 6'11". At 5'2" I stack out at about their hipbones and the short jokes flew, as did my indignant blood pressure. Don't worry though, I fixed those ogres in the end with my hobbity wit, until the daughter, who's 6' had to bend over to hug me. Drat it all!

Ooh, I must still be smarting from Kat height ego-bashing, sorry for the ramble!

Tomorrow I get to take my little blue car to the collision doctor, and they are going to give me a rental car! YEE HAW! Hope you are having a lovely weekend oh skillet of domestic abodeness!

The heaviest breed, the Mastiff, weighs about 200 pounds.

My aunt has English Mastiffs, and um, they far exceed the stated breed weight stat, lol lol!

The only things that make sense in the world of dogs, is to dogs. My sister had an enormous Mastiff, a pit bull, and a tiny Boston Terrier. The terrier ruled the roost. Never did have the heart to tell it that her whole BODY would fit in the Mastiff's mouth. And she did not care a hoot anyway. Would hold onto those rubbery jowells and get winged around on them, with the big dog just sitting there going 'nyaaaa nyaaa nyaaa' like Curly on the 3-Stooges. No, the dog world makes no sense, except to themselves. Which makes them even more fun. And they are ALWAYS happy and in a good mood. We need to take some lessons from the dogs.

Agreed and laughed for a couple minutes about the sassiness of small dogs!

Well CONGRATS and CONGRATS on two amazingly sweet looking pups!!! I am sure they will bring you much love and laughter.

Thanks OGP! It's a bit of a circus around here, but it was already, and the girls are really settling in great. Right now I am doing battle with Lani who thinks my laptop charge cord is black licorice or something, lol!

Cora is a great name for a Corgi and sound just perfect with you say it with Chuck. Chuck, Cora and Lani girl. Love it:) So much love and cuddles. I had a run in with a Corgi the other day. The only think I knew of them was that they were the Queen's breed of choice and her's are known for their snappy nature. She literally has a pack of them. But this one I met two days ago was sweet ... so loving. You are very fortunate with your new family members:)

Thanks Pryde, Cora is a real corker for sure, she cracks me up at least once every ten minutes or so, and Lani is so sweet. I am super proud of Chuck, wasn't sure how our senior citizen would feel about not one but two pups, but he just wags his tail and talks back to them in his coyote like way, lol!

Good old fella:)

And I did my part to not spoil the surprise!

You did indeed! friendship point!

What a lovely story, and beautiful pups to boot! :D

Surprises are grand... good ones, that is. ;)

😄😇😄

@creatr

Why thank you my pal! We love our new pack members!

So good to hear from you, hope you've been catching some sweet rollers down in the southlands:o)

Sadly, I've been so dry I'm beginning to shrivel up... :O

But my surfmobile is back on the road again, so I hope to hit the waves soon... :D

You held onto a secret for three whole days? Congrats kat, I'm going to have my mom contact you for the secret, I think her record is three whole minutes. She comes by it honestly though, my grandma's record is roughly a minute and a half.

Congrats on the new pups.

😆 😆 Your mom sounds like my dad, he's never met a secret he could keep, LOL!

And thank you, we've really been having a blast with the girls:)

Oh come late for the contest hahahaha @ddschteinn I see that he knows many things

After all it's a beautiful puppy with a cute name

dd is the most amazing creature ever, I learn at least one new vocabulary word from him a week!

And thank you:o)
