Delivery To Grandma's

IMG_1574.JPG

Ahhh! Many apologies shall now be offered to you all for my sporadic posting schedule this past week. Not only have I been busier than the White House personnel director, but I also am not even at my humble place of residence at the moment!

My grandma lives in the Big Bottom Valley (snicker) in western Washington, and I've really been wanting to visit her, for our last visit was far too long ago. As it so happened my mom wanted to head over for a visit too, so our visit to Grandma's became a mission.

IMG_1557.JPG

Our destination was a six hour drive through all of Eastern Washington and over White Pass. I've driven over that particular chunk of the Cascade Mountain range more times than I can count, but I still think it's a gorgeous piece of the Earth.

Here's a fun factoid: my other grandma was at the ribbon cutting ceremony to open the road over White Pass when she was eight years old! Like I said, my family has been traversing that chunk of road for awhile.

After we flew over the Pass, we spotted many of the rare Alberta White Butted Deer, and marveled at all the lush, non snow covered greenery that covers the valley that Grandma lives in. Even though I tend to think of the county of my birth as the butt crack of the Earth, I still will admit the foothills of Mt. St. Helens, Adams, and Rainer are rather beautimous.

Now I'm tucked in grandma's guest bed, surrounded by the worn cozy blankets and photo albums of my youth. My mom has been safely delivered to her mom, the children and I played some rousing rounds of dominos with grandma, and there's even been some family drama. Didn't some creature in red shoes once say, "There's no place like home?"

It is in that Oz-like vein that I'll be drifting off to slumber now. There are many potential blog posts waiting in the wings that I can't wait to craft and share with you all, and on that hopeful and maybe terrifying note I shall leave you all. Good night!

And always, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's semi-nostalgic iPhone.

Standard GK travel addendum: Until Monday, anything I post will be done on my phone, so my normal, almost mediocre formatting shall be absent. Many apologies!

Disetiap kejauhan perjalan kita.

Thank you so much @munazirpuwan for your profound and deep reply. I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts on life's journey, and hope that you had an amazing weekend:o)

I loved your story. Both my Mamaws passed when I was little so I never got to make those awesome memories. My Hubs Mamaw is still living and we treasure every day with her. We are close to her now that we live in VA. Some of my best memories are at his Grandmas house with all of his family crammed in her little house playing games and wrestling with the kids. Looks like a beautiful drive and going thru those photo albums and shoe boxes (that's what we have) are the best.

Oh! I am so glad you are close to your Hubs Mamaw! My grandma is six hours away, and I hate it that I don't get to see her more! We are going to bring her over to our farm this summer for a long visit, and we cannot wait!

It sounds like you have some pretty excellent memories of Grandma's house too, and I had to laugh about the "wrestling", oh boy, did we do a lot of that, lol!

Hope you have fun with your Mom and Grandma. You own a piece of that part of the country. Tell us about it when you get back. 🐓🐓

Awe, I did have a lovely time with Mom and Grandma:o) This weekend was both fun and a little bit wrenching. I've missed hanging out in the Steemiverse with my peeps 😊 Hope you're getting to relax with your feet up somewhere!

This one of your peeps and her chickens laid around being lazy all weekend. It was great and the guilt is not too bad. I will pay later no doubt. Glad you took some time to spend with the Mom’s. 🐓🐓

Wow ... grandma's house is very well situated. It looked like a really beautiful drive in and the roads were clear. I chuckled at how busy you were:)

Grandma's house is pretty cool, and I'm glad the crazy busyness amused you, lol!

The line about the white house was hilarious:)

This valley is look so amazing make me want to leave everything and go visit there myself

If you want to visit somewhere that time forgot than this Valley is a great choice😊

We all love your content in any format!!! :)

OGP! You are just awesome, and appreciated, and amazing! Like all the things that start with "A"!!

I liked the horse one pic..it reminds me some old memory.

Hopefully it was a pleasant memory, lol, some of my horse memories aren't the most pleasant, yee haw!

That does look like a lovely bit of the earth. There's no place like home indeed!

Ahh @meesterboom, it is quite pretty here, it's also a bit of a magical nostalgia tour for realz. Hope you're having a lovely weekend in Boomtown!!!

Lol, it is not bad. Collected the good lady so we are all back together having a nice time!

Snow on the way apparently though, boo!

Oddly enough, I don't believe I've ever taken that particular route across the state. Nor have I heard of the Big Bottom Valley, 'til now. I do wonder how it got its name.

It's sort of an out of the way route, as most people go through the gorge or over Snowqualmie to Seattle, but it is a pretty drive if you ever head down that way:o)

If you do take Hwy Twelve, you'll have to stop at the Big Bottom Tavern in Randle, I'm sure they could fill you in on the name, lol!

Grandma's always have the best, coziest blankets don't they? They also have incredible packing skills. My Baba's basement is rather cold but that's where the extra rooms are so we would always get these heavy wool-stuffed comforters. Yours wake up so toasty warm, exiting the bed would be the greatest challenge of the day. One day a box arrived at my doorstep. It was small. But opening it was the equivalent to a clown pulling an endless rainbow handkerchief from his sleeve; my most favourite comforter of hers was stuffed inside..it smelled cozy like her house too. What an incredible gift. -Aimee

Reading that most magnificent reply of yours was like being wrapped in a mental cozy blanket! I hate getting out of a toasty bed in a cold place, but you Baba's basement sounded like a wonderful place. Thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful memory, I loved that you got your favorite sent to you😊

I am so glad you enjoyed the story. Mental cozy blankets are a close second to the ones your can burrito yourself in. 😊 -Aimee
