A Pets And Vets Storytime!
A Tale Of A Library Transformation Into An Animal Clinic And Kennel
Every Tuesday we open the library before business hours to a gaggle of under five year old kids and their grown ups. This fall storytime's theme is "Little Renaissance Kids" and the programming consists of stories, songs, and hands-on themed play that brings out the creativeness in the little ones.
This week was super exciting as the marvelous Miss M informed me that it was pet and vets day! In the hour before the littles arrived we set up the meeting room as a "vet clinic" complete with ailing stuffed animals, an assortment of diagnostic tools and healing apparatuses, and the cutest little medical charts I have ever seen.
In the back of the library we laid out a bunch of building materials for the little pet owners to build custom dog houses, but it was what we did to the main area of the library after Miss M read a pet themed story that amused me beyond barking, we made a pet agility course.
Libraries provide so much more for their communities than just books. There is nothing better than seeing a two year old glowing with pride as they complete an obstacle course while they pretend to be a dog or watching a five year old applying a bandage to a wounded plastic dinosaur. I mean, just look at these bandage skills, I think we had a future wound specialist in attendance!
The only casualty in today's fun was one of the library's ever vigilant plants. I'm wondering if one of the puppies thought they needed a fetching stick, for we found a big chunk of said plant lying in a broken heap next to the agility course finish line. No worries though, I plunked that piece into some water and with a little care a new plant will hopefully grow, sprouting roots just like the imaginations of all the kids in attendance today will hopefully have a love for learning and discovery sprout from engaging in creative and informative play and learning!

Nice post! It's kind of an interesting coincidence that I took my dog to the vet today and wrote a post about it too.
I checked out and upvoted that post! A very nice coincidence indeed! 😊
Thanks! It's cool when that happens. :)
What a great program for the kids. If more kids had access to this kind of community program our world would be a much better place. Great job.
Awe, thanks @chops316! It is amazing how much joy organized play brings the small fries! For some people in our rural community it is the only fun outing that they get during the week, so I am happy to be a part of it!
More fun than human beings ought to be allowed to have...
😄😇😄

Well, a kid once told me that: "I'm not a human being, I'm a kid!"
Maybe he was on to something? 😆
Hahahahaha! Smart kid! ;)
Makes me miss being a kid again where life was so simple and easy . And everything was fun
Me too! Life was much more fun when I was a pegasus or horse every day, lol!
Wow.....that is funny and useful game for our kids....wel done and perfect my dear friend @generikat

Thanks @dinisanda!!
That Brontosaurus bandage, too cute!
We left that bandage on for a couple days, just to make sure that he healed!
What a fun event and I'm sure the kids will talking about it for days!
They sure had a blast! I can't wait to see what we are going to do next week!
Let me know if you ever need a volunteer to help with shenanigans like this. Looks like fun!
Ooh! I will! Although, I have heard from "someone" that you are hip deep in textiles and garment creation for a certain dramatic event these days, lol!
What a sweet little event for the kiddies, the library is such a great institution!🐓
I love storytime! I love the library too, but I will admit that I might have a tiny bit of a bias....
I was saddened by the fact that I didn't get the library page position. 🐓
I am sorry. I know that you really wanted that position. Hopefully something even better will open up soon, you totally deserve awesomeness!😊
