Small Update on Honduras

in #life7 years ago

I don't have much to talk about today, we have had the people who blocked the bridges, permit the passage of trucks and cars so at least we were able to reload our food and gas supply. Unfortunately it seems this is only temporary, the bridges will be blocked again.

Now we have the OAS recommending having a second round of elections, but the current president says that would be unconstitutional. Now here we have something funny, a second round is absent from the constitution so it wouldn't exactly be unconstitutional just something that isn't specified in the constitution, what is unconstitutional is the re election of a president.

Personally I think I had already written that I thought a new election would be the only way to settle this, have the two candidates run, have international organizations count the votes, and then we would have a president who would be accepted by everyone. Then of course we need to change a lot of laws in this country, perhaps we need a new constitution, well actually what we need is honest politicians, but that one I guess is impossible.

I was told the further right a government is, the smaller it gets, I think not, you see the problem is whether you are right or left wing in one of these Latin American "Democracies", to stay in power you need votes (unless it's Honduras where you can make up your own vote count) but really, people vote for whom they think might make their lot in life better so politicians from whatever ideology they come from make a lot of promises, one of them and probably the most important one is they promise jobs.

After they are in office they are faced with demands from all sectors that want these jobs, so what they do is invent jobs in the government, you get paid the minimum wage for doing nothing, and since we are a really corrupt country we think "I made the right choice this guy gave me a job". Of course if you do have some sort of moral code you would see this is stealing, but most people don't care about that.

So we have at least 100,000 who work for the government who actually do nothing, receive a wage and meanwhile our taxes have to be increased to be able to pay these people. I agree with the small government thing, we need less government, we don't need so many laws, to me all having so many laws does is make lawyers rich.
