Let's Merge the Holidays

I think this movement started in the US, they merged several President’s birthdays in February into one day which always falls on a Monday, and they do the same with other holidays like Memorial day, Labor day and some others celebrating them all on Mondays so people can have long week ends.

Here in Honduras we use what they call bridges where you can take the holiday off on Friday or Monday, regardless of what day the holiday really is on. But we have an even cooler one, in this country during October, we have three holidays, one is commemorating some national heroes birthday, Columbus day, and the Armed Forces day, well they had this great idea and now they lump them all together on the same week and you get an extra long week end.

I guess this practice has become common in a lot of countries, the trend to make weekends longer at the expense of celebrating holidays on the real day.

Well I think we should go further than this, we should take all the holidays we have in a year, I think they should average out to about 12 days in most countries, well we take these 12 days plus the 2 weekends and lump them all together and take the holiday at the end of the year, we start this winter holiday on the 20th of December and end it on the first Monday after the first of Januray.

Benefits of this idea:

People will have an extra long holiday which should alleviate any stress they have gathered during the year.

You get a few extra days at the beginning of January to cure any hangover you might have after this long holiday.

You will show up at work completely refreshed, ready for a whole new year.

You get all that time with your family.

Employees also benefit:

They get to shut down and do some M & R at their facilities during two weeks.

They get to work during the whole year without holidays breaking down their schedule.

They get a fresh work force at the start of every year.

No Christmas Party.

Apart from this, as a whole humanity gets to benefit, because this long holiday will be like practice for when AI takes over production and you won’t have a job to go back to.
