Is the History you are taught believable?

in #life7 years ago

I have been wondering about some of the history that we are taught and frankly I think we are not only being taught only the part that the rulers want us to learn or know, we are actually taught outright lies.

I am from Latin America so I will start out with a few we have around here for example, the Spanish accepted and made known an event were the Aztecs sacrificed 80,000 over the course of 4 days in the re inauguration of one of their temples. Ok, so we are told these guys had what were called flower wars against enemies but these wars were just for the purpose of getting prisoners to be sacrificed to the gods. So first of all the Aztecs had to have a war where they were able to capture 80,000 people, then take them back to the capital city of Tenochtitlan, keep them there for a few days until the day for the sacrifices arrived, so we have to believe the Aztecs were able to hold 80,000 prisoners who I really don't think wanted to die for a god, but the Aztecs did it and they didn't even have guns to guard the prisoners that in itself is a major feat.

But when you get to make numbers you will see that they had to sacrifice 20,000 people a day, that is 833 people an hour, almost 14 per minute, and remember they had to cut the guys chest open and take out his heart, let's say they had 10 priests at this because this was all done in the same temple and the people had to watch it, not much space atop a pyramid. That means that every 40 seconds a person had to be killed, his chest opened and his heart taken out. I think this is impossible.

Actually I think that when the Spaniards arrived the Aztecs were just a small remnant of what they once were, just think Cortes with a ragtag army of a few Europeans allied with a small force of native Aztec enemies were able to capture the Aztec emperor and their capital city. I think they did nothing of the sort, this was just a way of making Europeans fantasize about how great they were. I mean the Aztecs were supposed to be a warrior empire, do you really think they wouldn't be able to kill off a laughable force?

So that's my idea on Mexico's conquest a farce, and now I will come to Central America, here we have 5 countries (now it's seven because they have added Panama and Belize) but we are taught that in each country an incredibly brave warrior stood up against the Spanish conquistadors. In Guatemala Tecun Uman, in Honduras Lempira, In El Salvador Atlacatl, in Nicaragua Nicarao and in Costa Rica Garabito, now we have in Panama Urraca. Now isn't it strange that each country has an indigenous heroe even though not one of these countries existed as a nation at that time? And then we have Belize, colonized by the British, no Indian heroe that I know of, only Spanish conquered countries have this type of stories. I say they are just crap people invented to achieve some end, perhaps national unity, but what I can assure you is these heroes are made up.

So I think you shouldn't take your history too seriously because most probably you are being led down a path some group wants to lead you through. And I think this happens in every country in the world, somehow your country is better than the others.

Sort:

It's true, most of our history has been manipulated to tell the story the authorities want us to believe. I write regularly regarding this, much of history has huge gaps and weird anomalies that make no sense when you look at the entire picture. We've been lied to for a very long time.
