What do you need to connect?

Every day we wake up and we kind of know how our day is going to look like. Everyone plans. Whether you are a student or a worker, when you sit on your bed yawning and recognizing strange line patterns on your carpet you are already thinking what to do next.

Still while your eyes unfocused are looking at the infinity before standing up, your mind is already ahead of you, giving you imaginary pictures about how specific moments from your day are going to look like.

We are disconnected from what really matters.

Fire

Since the Homo Erectus discovered it 790.000 years ago, we have been travelling trough humankind always holding hands with it without burning ourselves. It gave us the possibility to stop eating raw food and consequently not spend so much time digesting. Fire protected us from predators and gave us heat and light becoming an animal not scared of the darkness.

It doubled our life expectancy.

Fire is hypnotic. We can look at the fire and forget about everything. At that moment, it´s just you looking at the past trough the flames. At that moment, It´s just you feeling the same way as our ancestors felt when they sat every night around it hiding from the danger inside caverns.
Fire has something magical. It really does.
When you sit in front of it, a feeling of togetherness invades you and warms you from the inside. It´s not just the heat, I am just talking about something else, something that connects us when we look at the fire with someone. A mutual smile outlined by the fire flames and shadows, decorated by the noise of the burning wood.

Water

A very good friend of mine closes his eyes every time he drinks a glass of water. There are not many things that give you such a pleasure as drinking fresh water when the thirst hits. It is as you were drinking life itself. Wet life crossing your throat and reaching every cell of our body making them almost immortal.

It gives our planet a color. A bright blue color in a deep black Universe that sends a signal to the unknown:
We are blue, we are water, we are alive.

Whether your child asks you for it or your dog looks at you with thirsty eyes, the moment that you give water to any form of life, an instant bond is made. A connection made of drops of kindness.

Air

The alveolar membrane is a tiny thin structure inside our lungs, which allows oxygen to enter the bloodstream and carbon dioxide to leave it. This little miracle is the result of thousands of years of evolution and thanks to it, our existence is guaranteed as long as the composition of the atmosphere stays constant.

The sound waves travel through it in the same way as the first travellers colonized new continents pushed by it, almost levitating over clouds of salted foam.
The beauty of your loved one is only overcome by the beauty of her breathing noise. A connection made of hugs and moving air.

Earth

It is the earth crust, the foundation of our walking adventure. It is silica, alumina, lime, magnesium, sodium, potassium and iron. It is tectonics plates dancing over the asthenosphere following a chaotic rhythm.

It will be our last witness. The one that will welcome us at the end. The one that won´t be scared when looking at our pale face. The one that will smile at us when the ultimate connection happens: We will be earth.
