An Inside Glimpse of Life in our Sustainable Ecovillage: Stay in our Cob Cottage through AirBnBsteemCreated with Sketch.

Have you ever wanted to stay at the Garden of Eden?

Many people who hear about our sustainable ecovillage want to know how they can get involved. We appreciate volunteers, donations, and resource exchanges, but there are still plenty of individuals who want to experience immersion at the GOE. For them, we offer unique options for visiting.

We are only minutes from the DFW metroplex but our lifestyle is worlds apart from the mainstream American culture, and it's lot of fun to share it! For example, we never have to leave to go to work. We do not shop at stores and instead make, trade, barter for, receive donations of, or go without any goods and/or services we need and/or want. We grow food, raise chickens, and use composting toilets. We don't watch TV. We only have hot water showers when we light the indoor wood burning stove on cold enough days in the winter. Otherwise, we shower outdoors. Year-round, we cook in our outdoor kitchen using the oven, grill, and rocket stoves we built by hand from dirt and burn scrap wood that was otherwise destined for the landfill.

We also have a variety of shelters on our 3.33 acre property. We have

  • a traditional 4 bedroom house
  • a geodesic dome
  • 2 trailers
  • a sunken suburban we call the Earth Womb
  • a Teeny Tiny Home village
  • tents
  • hammocks covered in mosquito nets (in the summertime)

with various levels of comfort available in each one. While we have electricity and wifi in most areas, none of the structures have heating or air conditioning. In the wintertime, we wear lots of layers of clothing, and we heat rocks on the wood burning stove, wrap them in towels, and take them to bed with us at night for extra warmth. In the summertime, we sweat a lot, enjoy the detox, and cool off in the outdoor well shower that is always 55 degrees pumped straight out of the ground.

We also have a little earthen building - a wee cob cottage! - that we built by hand out of dirt. We offer stays in it on Airbnb to give visitors a taste of the simple, peaceful life in our sustainable community!

We built this!!! We built this by hand, using just the Earth.
Cost of resources + labor = $0

It took some 10 volunteers a few weeks at a leisurely pace to complete this charming little structure, formerly home to our @kotamdickson. Cob is a super fun, sustainable, and strong building material. @quinneaker shared a little into to cob in his rocket stove tutorial:

This is a simple structure, but it's absolutely adorable! It's very quiet, natural, and simple, and we make the interior as sweet and cozy as possible. Here are more pictures of the interior of our cob cottage:

We offer this space on Airbnb with optional opportunities to order our world-class, high vibe cuisine, participate in yoga with @saramiller and the Eden Knights, or get a Tibetan bowl session from @everlove. Guests are not expected to participate in our numerous projects, but if anyone is inspired to work in the garden or learn about sustainable construction or feed the chickens, we are happy to share those aspects as well!

We are preparing more spaces - including our penthouse - to offer on Airbnb, and we hope to list with @steemstays when that project is ready for users! We're especially excited to potentially host Steemians at the Garden of Eden - our lifestyle may be different, but our hospitality is world-renowned, and we would love to share our unique, sustainable abundance with this stellar online community!

Thank you for your acknowledgement @raymonjohnstone. We're so excited about our life that we love to share it with those who are inspired. We're doing it everyday to live the most awesome life possible. We are truly blessed by our choices to engage in a sustainable life and to be awakening to greater awareness. I appreciate your comment.

You are some interesting people, and i have been wondering if you let others visit.
Now that i know you do, i hope to get the chance to meet your community and spend a couple nights out there sometime soon

Awesome, we love sharing our space!

very nice. Fantastic idea to offer through airbnb. STEEM ON!!

It's extraordinarily charming :-)
Thanks for sharing

I'm going out now to add fresh linens, hand-picked pecans, activated water, a snuggly afghan or two and some love to this little cottage for our guest arriving today. We will heat some hot rocks over the fire for her bed warmer and likely indulge her with a hot, uber dank meal to warm her belly. Excited for another day to share in the vortex. Perfect time for sharing this post!! I'm excited to have Steemians come join us through SteemStays! Let's power the new economy.

Hopefully our new guest will join Steemit!

As always, unique and awesome!
