RE: Part 2: Woman, Heal Thyself - How I Cured Myself of IBS and Fibromayalgia

in #life7 years ago

I was browsing through your feed to glance over some of your recipes and I hit on this old post of yours. This is so important. So many people don't understand a lot of there health issues are caused by what they are eating. Processed food is evil. I rarely touch the stuff. Unfortunately I can't get around the sulfites in wine. I don't know about Europe but all wine in this country has this preservative. Great post though w-o-w. Hopefully a lot of people read it and learned from it.

I thought that post was long buried! I'm always so happy meeting people here on Steemit who either already are very food-conscious, or want to know more. It's funny that we don't always link health problems to our diet, even though that's the most obvious place to start!!! I don't drink often anymore but like you I hate the idea of the sulphates in wine... plus whatever else they put in the cheaper stuff!

It's just too bad more people don't understand this. A woman I used to work with had serious health issues and went from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what her problem was. All they did was prescribe drugs and she got worse. She finally decided to go to a holistic doctor who changed her diet and she has been much better ever since. This along with my own personal experiences was proof enough for me. Keep spreading the word w-o-w and I'll do the same.

People are so used to getting their information for 'the experts' that they don't look into things for themselves. So the doctor prescribes drugs and the person thinks taking them must be the best course of action because the doctor is the expert. The most annoying thing is many people seem to think that their governments would warn them about anything that could harm them eg. artificial additives ... but try to share this valuable info with them and they won't listen because they'd rather believe the 'experts' that say it's nothing to worry about. Or my sister having problems with UTIs for years and years, and I give her advice eg. stop feeding the infection with sugar for one thing, and take probiotics, and drink more water than coffee etc, but she doesn't really listen because her doctor has never mentioned these things and of course he knows better than me...! Argh.

I feel your pain. I could talk to you about this for days. I truly believe they don't teach the doctors correctly in school (just like the economists but let's not go there). Nutrition is not emphasised in medical school and you really have to wonder why. Is it because big pharma isn't as profitable if everyone is healthy or the food and chemical industries would get push back. Follow the money I always say. And you're right about sugar. You really need to watch how much of that you take in. But I have similar issues in my family. They don't listen because I'm not an expert.

I know what you mean... I can go on and on about this too! You can give people all the facts and talk til you're blue in the face, and they just don't want to know. They say "Really?" with disbelief all over their face, like they don't believe a word of it, like you're the one with the faulty info, and if such-and-such was really so harmful surely the whole world would know about it through the media or government health campaigns or school etc. I was trained as a learning disabilities nurse and I think we did 1 lecture on nutrition in 3 years, and many of the disabled people I worked with had shocking diets - all this low fat diet crap full of harmful artificial poisons which wasn't even their choosing - their diets were carefully planned by a whole team of health professionals - GPs, nurses, care workers, family members. I found it very stressful to be honest, because I had to watch all these people being poisoned on a daily basis!!!
