Alba Iulia (Carolina) Citadel- even after 300 years it's a stunning fortress

The Alba Iulia citadel has become in recent years the most important attraction of the city and one of the most famous in Romania. The construction of such a fortification required huge efforts, both from human and financial point of view. On November 5, 2015, exactly 300 years have passed since the first foundation stone of the Citadel.

The Alba Iulia (Carolina) fortress is the largest and most valuable fortifications in south-eastern Europe and was built in the first half of the 18th century.
Architectural Components -The main body of the fortress is in the form of an irregular heptagon, the seven bastions giving it a typical stellar image of such systems. The Trinity is the largest bastion and has a crowned blazon with multiple fields and acanthus leaves.
I made this pictures in a trip to the Alba Iulia fortress in 2016. I was with a lot of friends and faculty colleagues. I wasn't able to make the entire fortress tour because it is very big and you can lose anytime. I was amazed at how well this fortress was designed by the military arhitect Giovanni Morando Visconti. The walls of the fortress are very imposing even in our days and they are proof of resistance in time. I will share with you a little bit of my experience.
