Old and proven adage prevails: people leave their managers, not organisations..!

in #life7 years ago (edited)

If you've got a lousy boss, will you start planning an exit strategy (ESCAPE) or would you work on how you can better manage the boss you already have (MANAGE UP) –for all their flaws and shortcomings.

This will be a big challenge for you especially when you like the company minus the boss.

Sometimes in your desperation to escape a toxic work environment you fail to take notice of the warning signs that the new job you're taking will only be worse – it could become a never ending rat race.

A never ending dilemma, it sure is. But then, it's not only about the "boss" or manager, there are other factors like co-worker's attitudes, organizational structure, poorly chosen workforce and other contributing elements to what's commonly called "office politics".

If someone is waiting or on verge of promotion and they have type two boss, they can wait for hike cycle to complete and then take call based on outcome.

Someone who has time to adjust and perform, they can stay back in company if roots are good. Lousy ppl get noticed quickly and ppl get changed eventually as they will fall short of ppl and events to blame on.

One has to consider so many variables..Ones own position in the hierarchy, financial liabilities, family responsibilities, skill levels and expertise, opportunities to upskill, phase of organisation lifecycle and one's own resilience and outlook towards life...and much more.

Considering all aspects one can devise a career growth pattern and a strategy to manage a toxic boss..

And keeping in mind the evolution of companies and also stakeholder expectations more often than not, it's such vile and toxic bosses who usually rule the roost.
