Got a job rejection? It's not a big deal. It happens to everyone

What's more important is what you do immediately after.

  1. Send an e-mail to the hiring manager thanking her or him for the time spent so far in the interview process.

  2. Ask for feedback, and if they've already given it to you, let them know which points you agree with and which ones you don't, and why.

  3. Attach your CV and let them know it's for their records, in case another position opens up in the future that would suit you better.

  4. Let them know what you learnt about yourself, and the company, from the interactions you've had so far.

  5. Wish them luck, and let them know you'll be following their progress.

It'll take 8-10 minutes of your time, but will make a world of a difference. Not a lot of candidates do this, trust me. The ones who do - stand out.

A few things can happen next:

  1. The hiring manager will take note of your professionalism and refer you to friends who might be hiring that you'd be a better fit for.

  2. They will indeed keep you in their records and reach out in the future knowing that you've possibly worked on flaws / weaknesses.

  3. The hiring manager may move to another company in the future where a position for you could come up.

Professionalism and maturity go a long way.
