Britain’s First Zero-Waste Store Is Packaging-free And Only Sells Ethical Goods!

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Humans have created 9.1 billion tons of plastic since the 1950s. 'Bring your own container' initiatives is a growing trend in trying to cut back on packaging waste.

To keep plastic off our plates and out of our oceans, this couple started the only zero waste shop in the UK.

Rob Greenfield is an adventurer, activist, and humanitarian for a sustainable and just world. He donates 100% of his media income to grassroots nonprofits.

His YouTube channel is a source for all things sustainable living, off the grid, simple living, zero waste, tiny house, grow your own food, cycling, and green.

There are over 150 organic unpackaged foods to choose from, such as: grains and pastas, beans, flower and sugar for baking, dried fruits and nuts, herbs and spices.

The supermarket stocks regionally-grown oats, sanitary products, metal shavers that the blade can be swapped on and bamboo toothbrushes.

Reportedly, the “grind-your-own” nut butter machines are the most popular. “Filled with both almonds and peanuts, you can re-use your nut butter jar again and again and again, each time filling it with delicious, sticky goodness that’s been ground right in front of you.

Shoppers are required to bring their own containers. After the containers are weighed, shoppers pay for their purchases by the weight.

Hope we will see similar businesses erected worldwide so the environment may be preserved while humanity is nourished.

Thats a great concept. Here in Taiwan, there are a lot of takeaway tea shops. If you bring your own cup you get NTD2 off (drinks are normally between NTD55 to under NTD100)
