My apologies upfront to my regular readers for deviating from my usual type of content. But junk mail is one of my pet peeves. I thought I would share this simple strategy that I regularly employ that will, at minimum, make you feel a whole lot better about receiving junk mail in your post box.

Stuff It!

Hate Getting Junk Mail? Here’s what to do about it!

Forget about your e-mail inbox for a moment. Let’s talk about your actual mailbox. Are you sick and tired of getting tons of junk mail letters and flyers clogging up your post box? Think it’s just par for the course and there’s nothing you can do about it?

Think again!

Getting junk mail is not only a nuisance it also:

  • Puts you at risk of identity theft (think of all those credit card offers with your name pre-printed all over it waiting for someone else to intercept)

  • Fills up your recycle box or worse the local landfill

  • Wastes your time

  • Is insulting! You keep getting crap and there’s apparently nothing you can do about it

  • Is a waste of the energy that is put into producing this unwanted paper and ink

So what can you do about it?

I’m constantly amazed at how many people I come across that hate junk mail but have never thought to just send it back. I've been doing just that, with pleasure, for years now.

SEND IT BACK!

Most of the unsolicited offers for insurance or credit cards (or whatever) you receive come with a postage paid return envelope. This is sent as a courtesy and is meant for those that respond to the offer. And respond you should!

Since the postage paid arrangement is only good for sending a letter back to the soliciting party, your best bet is doing just that. Why not send them back their junk (and toss in some more of your other junk mail for good measure)?

The Upside:

  • It feels good. Give ‘em their garbage back. Throw it in their faces.

  • It takes little time. Just stuff the postage paid envelope and drop it in the mail.

  • Send a message. Let them know their mail in unwanted. Include a personalized note if you wish.

  • Make ‘em pay. Let the company pay the cost of postage to get their crap (and more) back.

  • Recycle / Reuse. Re-purpose the junk mail by sending it back thereby extending its useful life.

  • Support your postal workers. Keep the post office busy and help increase their bottom line. Help out your fellow neighborhood mail carrier. Maybe they’ll even turn a profit one day.

Some Tips:

  • Stuff it thick. The cost of postage is often influenced by weight. So pile in whatever loose flyers and other junk mail you can get away with. One time, I folded up a whole newspaper section and stuffed it carefully into an envelope.

  • Stick to paper. Use other flyers and junk mail. Stay away from anything that could hurt someone or be misinterpreted (think baking soda).

  • Keep it anonymous. Don’t send them anything with your name or other identifying information on it. You never know. Just shred those pages.

If more people did this, don’t you think they’d feel it in the pocket book? If it cost them more and they got less return on their investment, just maybe they’d scale back on sending out so much junk mail. We'd all be better off (including the planet).

I've heard of doing this but never participated in the practice. It actually sounds like fun. LOL

It couldn't hurt to try. If alot of people did the same, I'm positive it would make an impact.

Thanks for your comment. 😊

OMG YES!!!!! LMAO MUAHHAHAHAHA THANKS!
