Criminals do not sleep... 🏝️ Country and people on the Dominican Republic

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Hola mis Steemians

The crime doesn't sleep here in the Dominican Republic and certainly not the criminals.

It is known here on the island, that especially at night the crooks lie in wait to attack moped drivers and car drivers. And the meshes are always similar; in the last 3 - 4 years however also so-called nail boards are used recently, so that the air escapes from the tires when driving over it (see video below from the inland of La Vega).

A particularly notorious route for crimes is the Autopista Las Amerikas from Santo Domingo to the east at the height of Boca Chicas. As a car driver you are often thrown here at night bottles or stones under the car. Of course you want to stop and get out of the car. Then they come out of nowhere, rob you and usually take the vehicle with them.

In 2017 alone, around 6,000 cars were stolen throughout the Dominican Republic, more than two and a half times the percentage of the German population.

In certain dark places, where the riders have to brake hard, which is still quite common due to the many ground thresholds, especially motorcyclists jump out of the darkness when braking and are torn and beaten by their motorcycles with truncheons.

As mentioned above even nail boards are used now (you can see them in the video). As drivers you can't see them behind the "sleeping policemen" (that's what the Dominicans call their thresholds). And when you drive over these nail boards the tires are flat, you have to stop. Already they are there, the gangsters and rob you. The criminals use this trick at night, especially after midnight.

Then there is not so much traffic and the robbers have enough time to remain unobserved. By the time another vehicle arrives, the robbery has already happened and the gangsters have disappeared in the dark night.

I would like to urge all those who spend their holidays here and drive a car to be careful and above all not to drive after midnight.

Yes, paradise also has its dark sides.

Je größer die sozialen Unterschiede sind umso großer ist die Kriminalität. Danke für den Bericht und die Warnungen. Werde es beherzigen, sollte ich mal in die Dominikanische Republik kommen.
