RE: Why I didn't 'choose' to be an addict

in #life7 years ago (edited)

You cannot choose the events that will shape your life or your parent's behaviour. Same goes for addictions. Its your minds responce trying to protect you and make you feel relaxed, happy etc. But that's just half of it, the subconscious part. The other half relies on your logic-consciousness and your ability to prevail over your own self. When you realize that, the clock starts ticking again but with a very different pace - the one you choose.

But make no mistake. Once an addict, always an addict. The difference is that some are too scared of the reality while some understand their weakness, accept it, embrace it, and emerge stronger from it. Not because they won the battle, but because they realized there was never a battle, just themselves too frightened to look at the mirror.

As I said, I swapped my alcohol addiction for a writing one :)

And I wish you good luck in your life and hapiness in your family !
