What can you do when someone steals your content?

in #life7 years ago

After a couple of years of writing, if you’ll be consistent and interesting, you’ll definitely become popular. This popularity thing is not that easy! Until you get to this point there will be years passing, long nights, disappointments, many sacrifices, torments, studying and many more…You should know that popularity, apart from being pretty and all, it can seriously bring some aggravations. For instance, apart from the public who really appreciates you, there will also be certain individuals to copy you. And apart from the fact these guys are basically stealing from all the work you’ve done, they also have the nerve to pretend like it’s not like this! Therefore, this is what you should do when someone steels your blog content:

07. Ce să faci când cineva îți fură conținutul de pe blog.jpg

First of all, let’s see how can you find out if someone has been copying you?

The thing with “finding out” - if someone has been copying you or not - is extremely easy to do. If you copy one single phrase from one of your posts and you paste it on Google search, you’ll notice that the first website or blog appearing is exactly the one you are thinking of, your site, your blog or your STEEMIT post, that is! If you notice more websites with the same content, this means that your texts have been copied. So, nothing simpler than that!

There are numerous plagiarism programs available on the market, but as a first step it is advisable that you verify it on your own - through the traditional way - without any program, apps or special software. Once you depict the web site or blog that has copied you, you can go to the next step.

What can you do when someone has copied you?

For starters, you should try to contact the person who owns the website or the blog. Try to find out what made him copy you, without mentioning you, and try to solve the issue amicably. Of course, don’t forget to mention that according to regulations, there are some risks which he/she is exposing to. Mention that copyrights are yours only…It’s not that it is not known, but just to remind him/her about them. Explain that “he who steel, can go…himself”, especially from the law’s point of view.

There are high chances that you won’t get any answer. This means that you might not be able to contact him. So, what should you do in this situation?

Well, you just send an electronic letter or you simply get in contact with the one hosting the website.
You explain the issue, you mention what you were deprived off, you bring proof if necessary and you firmly ask them to take action.
Your main goal should not be to sue them, the main idea is to deal out justice.

In your case, the hosting agency should take action. You can even ask them to contact the web site’s owner.

From my point of view (or to cite one of my friends “from my point of regard”) doing more than this is not worth the effort at all.

If you’ll become popular and you’ll only be interested in this aspect, at some point you’ll acknowledge the fact that this battle has no end. That is, instead of focusing on what you need to do, by creating good stuff for people to read, you’ll just waste time following who knows what lunatic.
Would you be ok with daily menacing one or another for stealing your idea or your posts content? I guess you wouldn’t like to file complaints after complaints…

So, look! If you are still not fully convinced, here is another thing you can do:
When someone steels your blog content, reach out to the most popular within this field and see how they dealt with the problem.
You might be surprised, but you should know that famous people don’t even mind about such stuff. And you know why? Because this means constantly beating the air. So, the more popular your posts/articles/blog/website gets, the more often you’ll face such plagiarism situations. YOU HAVE NO CHANCE TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING!

Most big companies have even hired people to specifically deal with these situations! But not much has been solved. They were not able, by any means, to stop this from happening.
Let’s think about the biggest company making mobile phones: no matter how much effort they put into stopping the plagiarism of their mobile phones’ models, there will always be replicas available on the market. Do you think that there weren’t people to do something about this? Well there have been, my friend! And you have no idea how! It’s just that it is a battle with no end.

If we were to only talk about you, your content is the first to be indexed by Google, so the only ones to be affected will be the ones who steel it. So, don’t waste too much energy on it. You’ll get upset for no reason at all.

Try to see this plagiarism thing as a compliment and focus on what is really important.

If someone wants to copy you, by taking in his possession what you’ve created, this means that you’ve become a valuable and appreciated being.
