Grave torment is more painful than dying, because when people die, they don't occupy the final resting place. He only stopped for a while, even though the stopover could be longer than when he lived in the world. That is the realm of barzakh, the grave realm. Maybe even there, he did not have time to rest at all, even if only for an instant, because he was constantly getting tortured.
This barzakh realm must be passed by every person, before the arrival of a big court day that anyone will not be able to escape from. The day when God came to judge every human being according to what they had done. Judgment Day. A day that unbelievers will never expect, because they already know and feel their awesomeness when they experience great torment in their graves.
The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam told a lot about the situation in this grave. In fact, he told a lot about the torments that were inflicted on Muslims who acted.
