Boats for fishermen or people with livelihoods seeking fishing, have a wide range of functions and roles. From the existence of the function and role of the boat, it will be seen the dynamics of the community in overcoming their life and social problems.
Activities related to boat use have of course driven the economic sector for the supporting community. This economic activity can already be started from the time of the boat making process, boat trading, and the use of boats in the lives of livelihoods seeking fish. From a boat alone it can move the economic wheel of a society, even when the new boat will be made. However, the boat's economic function is most visible when fishermen use the boat as one of the most important facilities for their livelihood. Economic movement appears when there is a distribution of the results of fish obtained, as well as trade activities around the location of the fish auction. Whatever it is, it is clear that the boat is able to carry out its economic functions very well in a community group.
boats also have social functions in people's lives. This social function is seen in various activities and forms of community activities in finding fish. This social activity eventually gave birth to a social structure or class in the community, that is, between fishermen, owners or skipper and labor fishermen. Owner / skipper fishermen are often based on boat ownership rights and the amount of capital for fishing. The continuity of the relationship between employers and fishermen is based on patron client relations, namely relationships based on the existence of brotherly ties or relatives or neighbors. This relationship on the basis of the cause between the employer and the workers can work together for a very long time and their business endeavors continue to be good, even though problems will occur easily.
If the owner / skipper fisherman is a person who rarely or even never goes directly to catch fish in the sea, the labor fisherman is a person who works directly catching fish in the sea. Social relations between employers and laborers will be created if the skipper has empathy and high attention to his workers. This attention will cause fishermen to work sincerely and earnestly in finding fish, and vice versa. From here it is clearly seen how the boat can create a complex social relationship or structure, namely between employers and labor fishermen.
