Vlog #27: Steemit is the best video game I ever played! Wait what!?
About 7 years of my 20's (20-27) I spend on this game called World of Warcraft. It's an online RPG. I'm 33 now.
It's the best game I ever played and it took over my life with ease. I played it almost every day.
By the end of those 7 years, I was a fairly successful raid leader of a mediocre guild.
Then one day something happened and I don't remember what that made me realize a simple thing. And it went a little bit like this:
'Why the hell are you spending so much time on a digital character when you can spend this time on yourself?'
I stopped playing after that. Could not enjoy it anymore.
Developing oneself
I did a lot of good things for myself after that.
I stopped smoking, started exercising, started eating healthy. Spend more time building my business. Got more confident. Found crypto in 2013. Went out more. Decided to visit my friend in the UK. Signed up to a dating app there for fun. Found Bianca. Experienced life. Found Steem.
I have been on steemit for almost a year. And only now I realize this is sort of comparable to a game.
But unlike developing a digital character that is, in essence, worthless, on STEEM, I can develop myself and it has already seriously changed my 'real' life.
How you develop yourself on Steemit is entirely up to you. You can do whatever you want here.
Have you got aspirations as a writer? give it a shot.
Are you an amateur photographer? give it a shot.
Have you got life lessons and stories to tell? give it a shot.
You can make this list as long as you want with all kind of subjects. I have never seen judgment here to anyone giving it a shot.
Once you start you will realize how much fun it is.
And all you have to do is make an account and start your Steemit journey.
Next, to living life, it's probably the best time I ever spend.
I talk about it more in my vlog.
Listen to all the confessions in here... ;)
I have a gaming PC that currently sits unused. I feel a bit guilty when I use it, like there are a hundred better things to do. I even cut way back on YouTube recently.
I like the way you connected gaming to Steemit.
There's countless ways to play this game, and the best ones will result in self-improvement.
Thank you. The confessions were nice to read!. And I can so relate to that guilty feeling, I'm hoping that has nothing to do with age. Maybe at $10 STEEM our brain will allow us to play again :)
Great analogy. Focusing on "personal development", a phrase I learned from the late Jim Rohn has been instrumental in changing my life. I see Steemit as a vehicle that can help you grow as a person while also helping others. That's quite inspiring if you really think about it.
Jim Rohn's "Lesson of the Season's" has been instrumental in changing the way I think and approach life on a daily basis. Here it is. Hope it helps someone else as much as it's helped me.
I liked that video. Thank you. Your income is primarily determent by your philosophy, not the economy.
Great post and I can relate. I used to be addicted to facebook. On it 24/7 until I realized it did absolutely nothing for me, just seemed to create drama. On Steemit, I learn something new every day and have met some incredible people. I haven't even done my introduction post yet, but I'm going to give it a shot. You never know, I might end up having something to say that someone else will value. :)
Me too.
Good luck on your intro post. Just give it a shot. It's fun to start this journey!
I just can not stop steemiting there is so much unique content here every second to absorb... an economy growing on itself with caffeine so amazing.
Never too old to be playing video games!
I used to game... now my GPU is more for mining :)
Amazing post. I could relate so much, since i have similar issue. Video game called Football manager. Such a waste of time. Weird, but i don't have regrets, since i had fun. Anyway thank you for sharing your story. It is very inspirational.
Thank you! I don't have real regrets, there is no point to them. I had fun at the time.
Wartune junkie here... 3+ years
Spending more time here now and go days without logging in. The constant barrage of buying their latest weapon, troop or whatever is an irritant. Especially when I know my online time can fill my wallet instead of draining it.
I like the way you put it.
Thanks! It makes the decision a lot easier. ;~D
Wow can not wait till my son reach this stage where he stops playing and spend more valuable time on other things.
I only took me 27 years :)
Oh my goodness then I will still have to deal with it for a long time hope I cope LOL!
World of Warcraft always seemed interesting to me but I never played it more than trial version. Subscription model was insane, every month pay to play. Not for me, Blizzard did take my youth with other games like Starcraft, Warcraft 3 and Diablo. Ahhh Blizz...
