The weather was amazing today in the Netherlands.
25 degrees in Oktober.
This could have been the last day to grill in my shorts so I went for it.
We had a lot of leftovers in the fridge and I don't like wasting them.
I decided to freestyle.
This is what I found around the house. Potatoes, Crème fraîche, cheese, Feta, a bag of vegetables. And later I also found a lettuce. I decided to make a gratin with what I had without knowing if it would work. A bake and pray.
Butter the cast iron pan.
I used a mandolin to slice the potatoes
Building the gratin. Start with a layer of potatoes
I added a layer of cheese, vegetables, and Crème fraîche. Truth be told I didn't think it looked very appetizing. But now I was committed. No way back.
I kept building and finished with a nice layer of cheese. That's better.
Time to light the egg! I aimed for 200C. You always use charcoal in the green EGG, never briquettes, you can see big chunks of charcoal inside the grill.
On they go! I checked every 10 minutes.
After 20 minutes I got the steaks and salted them with sea salt. One was a lot thicker than the other so that one I put on first.
I added the steak to the grill. I aimed for an internal temp of around 55-60C
End result! Not bad at all! The steak was perfectly rare. The gratin was nice, but with cream, it's a little bit better, I have to admit. But for a Monday meal, yeah you don't hear me complain :)
The steak cut open (I can't stand it when they don't show you this.)
This is what the gratin looked like. It was not a bad try at all!
@exyle the steak looked a tad bit RARE for my taste but that is OK. Now I am really curious how the Gatin turned out ?? All in all you are quite a Chef.......
Steak looks like a heart attack for vegetarians. Fat tasty food with some beverage - coca cola? Hope no
Oh yeah, you're right, in such a fine weather, eat a good steak with a salad, it's worth it! The most important thing is that everything is cooked on an open fire, and this gives the dish a special taste! Thank you @exyle
You can't beat the taste of the grill!
Good job turning "leftovers" into a nice meal. I'm sad when I have to throw food away because it's waste of valuable resources and money.
Me too. It feels like such a waste.
@exlye after saw this yummy foods now you made me hungry! Can I joined with you. Lol

wow another recipe from green egg, i love cheese and that dish is full of cheese, it looks so delicious and yummy i hope it also tastes great, you choose a great option to use the charcoal in the green egg because the charcoal really cooked the food deep inside and the food tastes even better, the grating is also perfectly cooked and it's no doubt a perfect combination to eat with steak, i really enjoy watching your cooking blog because it helped me to add another new dish to my diary every time you share, enjoy your week ahead my friend and thanks for sharing

Wow I don't understand how can some people eat beef that rare !! Is it hard to chew ? Or is it perfectly succulent and tender ?
This meat is incredibly tender. It's very soft to chew and full of flavor.
