Is STEEM still a good buy at $2?
This is the question that is on a lot of people’s minds. And it all comes down to your own perspective of this price.
Let me explain.
My hope is crypto will set me free from this job.
Anyone that has been on Steemit since July 2016 has gone through the period I call the Steemit dark ages. The sentiment was so low and Steemit as a platform was sure to fail.
This doubt created a huge selloff from early adopters. Tanking the price. All the way to $0.07.
The dark ages lasted for around 8 months.
Times are different now
Then in March 2017, the price started to recover fast. All the way to $2 today.
Anyone that has gone through the Steemit dark ages and looks at the Steemprice today fears it. And this makes sense if you have seen $0.08 with your very own eyes.
But this is a completely irrational way of thinking. You need to readjust your mind from fear and focus on what Steem is today and what the potential will be in the future.
Then you should ask yourself. Is investing in what can potentially become the greatest social media platform ever worth $2 STEEM?
The Steem blockchain is only just over 1-year-old
When I invest in something I look at what it does right now and what the potential is in the future.
When I invested in the midst of the Steemit Dark Ages it was harder to see but I saw it, now it's way more clear.
No wonder the price went up.
Right now
- The blockchain works perfectly and has been for more than a year.
- The blockchain has the best tech in the entire industry. (3 sec block times, no fee)
- The blockchain has a fantastic community and it's growing every day. (+9000 in the last 2 days)
- Everyone that contributes to the blockchain gets paid. (even if it's just $0.01, that's more than any other social media platform)
- It's free to join the Steem blockchain. It doesn't cost you anything. You don't have to invest your own money.
- It's possible for everyone to monetize the blockchain (apps, frontends. This is working today! (busy.org/ chainBB)
- Mobile App that works (Esteem)
- No adds
- It's a fun social media experience. That feels fresh.
Future
- Communities and the ability to monetize them.
- Easier Signups
- Linear reward curve
- more apps developed by the community (example: Zappl, Steepshot). there will be way more.
- More frontends
- Bigger names joining, taking users with them to the Steem blockchain.
Steempower
All that is written above is great and then there is more in the form of Steempower.
Steempower is STEEM that you have powered up. Steempower generates more Steempower just by having it.
- More and better curation rewards
- More voting power on your own posts and post of others
- You get a small interest on Steempower.
At the moment I make 180 STEEM from curation alone. That's $360 every week. Or $18.720 per year.
This is at 2$ STEEM.
I'm also not powering down and this is the reason. Wich also means my Steempower is not for sale.
I do sell earning from blogging from time to time. (steem dollars).
STEEM will also be harder to earn in the future when the Steem blockchain grows. It's a fix reward pool divided over more and more users.
The dark ages prices have passed but there is still a lot of room here for investing.
Is $2 a good buy? I can't say. And I won't. I can only tell you how I see it.
I would recommend you do your research, as you should in any investment.
And then the only question that matters is. Do you believe this platform will grow in the future?
Good luck.

People who believe in steemit just keep buying steem. They don't ask for price. Skeptics and complainers did't buy even at 0.07. Why bother?
I just bought another small amount of Steem with some spare btc.
God I hate transferring btc!
My sentiments exactly. Need to keep those Bitcoins. :)
yeah ! those fees are killing every body.
Yesterday I added $10 fee to my BTC transaction. It still felt like forever once you get used to STEEM.
Me too, even though it's just 15 mins most of the time, I typically want it ASAP when I have bought BTC
I think $2 Steem is still a good buy, especially if it someday goes over $50, $100... whatever it can achieve. (Are those prices possible?) But I just can't make myself buy $2 Steem when I witnessed it drop to $.07. That was the golden opportunity to buy!
It sure was, but times were different back then. The sentiment too. But I feel you $2 feels high (although it probably isn;t in the long term)
I originally got into steem as just another crypto investment. Without even having a blog here. After realizing the price is rising for a real reason I started posting. I think steel has the potential to be massive and am glad to be part of this journey.
It's a nice journey to be on!
Steem is still under priced now, year end target price of STEEM = +$4.70..!!Though it may fluctuate a bit till it reaches the target...anything below $2 is still a good buy option.
The dark ages must have been rough. I hope your persistence pays off and you can realize your goal of getting rid of your more stressful accounts and living off your Steemit earnings. $4 Steem price does not seem that far away.
At the moment it's going in the wrong direction, lol :). But thanks, man! I have a broader view than just today. This thing will work out!
Great!, I bought more STEEMPOWER and want to put more effort into STEEM! Thanks Exyle!
Great and have fun with your blogging efforts!
Good article
I'm still a little confused as to how Steemit can afford to "give away" all this "money"? It all still feels a little too good to be true
current dollar assets are inflated 9% annually - that goes to rewards - and that is compensated by organic growth. That growth is supposed to be much stronger than 9% annually in coming years.
Thanks for the explanation. appreciated
It's not really given away, it's mined. There is no payor.
Yes it is.
Pro
► The Blockchain is the most revolutionary technology in the 21st century
► The Steemit Social media and Steemit community is currently the most attractive Community
►For a cryptocurrency like steem to rise you need a) good developer team b) great community
Only Con:
~ 10% inflation each year
Just my 2cents :)
The inflation will get less and less each year.
