Life Is Precious # 2 - Josephine Baker's Last Dance

in #life7 years ago (edited)

The woman once known as the "Bronze Venus" and the "Creole Goddess" lay peacefully in her bed - seemingly in repose - surrounded by newspaper articles celebrating her recent triumph. Just days earlier on April 8, 1975 Josephine Baker began a rapturously received comeback at The Bobino Theatre in Paris. Stars such as Mick Jagger and Diana Ross were in attendance to see a master at work, celebrating 50 years in show business.

At the height of her fame, Baker was known for her scandalous “Banana Dance" seen below:

Her work for the French Resistance during World War 2, earned platitudes from the grateful people of her adopted country. She was as beloved in Europe, as Oprah Winfrey is in America today. In 1975, at 68, Mrs. Baker prepared to conquer Paris, yet again. She succeeded.

On April 12, 1975 Josephine Baker was discovered in a coma, and passed away later that day. This amazing entertainer, known worldwide, lived life to the very fullest. I am so glad she took her chance to step back on stage for one last hurrah.

Let's take a look while she rehearses for what was to become her final filmed performance in Paris, the city she loved. I hope this incredible story inspires you to never waste a moment, living for other people. Life is truly precious, savor every moment you have.

Thank you so much!
