Fear of the Facemask
China reported 409 new coronavirus cases today. 150 additional people have died, bringing the total to 2,592 dead with 77,150 infections. Now those are the numbers they admit to, I believe the real count is much higher...
I'm writing this post because I see almost no one here getting ready for this pandemic. A number of people are walking around with surgical facemasks (these provide some protection against spreading the disease to others, but not enough against being infected by someone else). So you need to be sure to get the right ones. I personally believe those of you living on isolated homesteads and growing your own food will be better off than those of us living in cities and the suburbs. You'll be able to keep your contacts with the outside world to a minimum. However for everyone else, its time to start prepping...
Anti-Asian fear
With China being the worlds supply center, without a quick resolution to this crisis, expect disruptions in products made there. If you're not stocking up on respirator masks (notice I didn't say surgical masks) you need to do so now while you still can. Coronavirus has not touched the states like it has China, with only 53 infections so far. But I believe it's only a matter of time, as people are only in quarantine for 14 days, when other research says the time frame needs to be more like 30 days.
Empty store shelves
If this thing gets as bad as it could, I can see panic buying clearing the shelves of much-needed supplies. You won't be able to drive to your local Costco and stock up. So I implore you to get on this now, or regret it later. Food, water, facemasks, goggles, rubber gloves, medicine and personal protection are just the start of what needs to be on order. Even the FBI is stockpiling supplies just in case...
Shouldn't you be as well? I can see the people who didn't prep getting nasty, and going after those that did. You'll need to be able to protect yourself and your family when the time comes. Better to have it and not need it than otherwise. I really hope this ends soon, but we need to have a plan in place if it doesn't. Are you ready for coronavirus?
