The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "My Ummah will be divided into seventy-three groups, all of them in the fire, except one, the group." Narrated by al-Rabee 'ibn Habib in Musnad. Narrated by Tabarani and Abu Dawood.
The meaning of the group in this hadeeth is that the public who follow what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to be, and his companions, and this group called the group, they do not interrupt until the Day of Resurrection. As for the difference between these two and seventy, most of them were found and then extinct.

رأسُ مَالِ المسلمِ العَقِيدَةُ، فالعَقِيدَةُ عَقِيدَةُ أهلِ السُّنّةِ هيَ أصلُ الإسلام، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "ستَفتَرقُ أُمَّتِي إلى ثَلاثٍ وسَبعِينَ فِرقَة كُلُّهُم في النّار إلا واحِدَةً وهيَ الجمَاعَة"رواه الرّبيعُ بنُ حَبِيب في مُسنَدِه. ورواه الطّبرانيُّ وأبو داود.
مَعنى الجمَاعةِ في هَذا الحديثِ الجمهورُ الذينَ يتَّبِعُونَ مَا كانَ علَيهِ الرّسُولُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وأصحَابُه وهَذه الفِرقَةُ المسَمّاةُ جمَاعَةً هم لا يَنقَطِعُونَ إلى يومِ القِيامَةِ أمّا الفِرَقُ الاثنَتَانِ والسّبعُونَ هَذه أكثَرُها وُجِدَت ثم انقَرضَتْ ولم يَبْقَ مِنها إلا نَحوُ ثَلاثِ فِرَق مِن بَينِ الاثنَتَينِ والسّبْعِين فِرقَةً،

فالجَماعَةُ هُم "السّوادُ الأعظَم" كمَا وَرَد في روايةٍ لهذا الحَديث رواهَا أبو حَنِيفَةَ بإسنادِه وغَيره، فالحقّ معَ هَذه الفِرقَة التي هيَ السّوادُ الأعظَمُ فمَن خَالفَها فهوَ هَالِكٌ، ولا يَطلَعُ وَليٌّ إلاّ مِن هَذه الفِرقَةِ السّواد الأعظَم البَقِيّةُ مَحرُومُونَ مِنَ الوِلايَةِ وبَعضُ هَذه الفِرَق الاثنَتَين والسّبعِينَ وصَلُوا إلى حَدّ الكُفر لا يُعَدُّونَ مُسلمينَ، مِن أولئكَ الفِرَق التي لا تُعَدُّ مِنَ المسلِمينَ المعتزلةُ والمرجئة، المعتزلةُ همُ الذينَ يقُولُونَ العَبدُ يَخلُق أفعَالَه، اللهُ أَعطَى العبدَ القُدرَة ثم العَبدُ يَستَقِلُّ بخَلقِ أفعَالِه، هؤلاء كُفّار، كفَّرَهُمُ الإمامُ الشّافعِيُّ والإمامُ الأوزاعيُّ وغَيرُهما.
