That's just something people say. I would not be able to attribute that statement as more likely to come out of either sex.
Women speak to and about each other even worse than men speak to or about them. We've long enjoyed the privilege of extra respectful treatment from men and are loath to relinquish special treatment in exchange for equal treatment.
