My father turned 60 yesterday, not a big deal yeah?… so I thought in the days building up to his birthday. People turn 60 everyday, I’ll turn 60 one day, you too

Then I clicked. 60…….. my father …… wtf!!

Memories flushed through my brains. This dude would never play football with me again, I don’t think that’s the most painful part of one’s father turning 60, but it was the one I couldn’t get out of my brain.

A lot of other thing queued up in my train of thought, one unwanted but inevitable one was, “one day, I won’t own this man again” . Another disturbing one was “homie! (referring to me),this man is ripe for a grandchild (I ain’t even got a decent relationship yet)”.

I had a vivid mental picture of his smile, his voice rang over and over, my father seldom speaks above his voice, so the calm voice was what was ringing both in laughter and in rebuke modes, He was two sits from me and I was missing him (wipes teardrop)

Alright! Enough of the emotional BS. My father’s entering a new world, I’m happy to escort him there, send your wishes if you will, but whether or not you do, he’s gonna live long so, I still got pleeeeenty of time to catch all the fun I can with him. We might not be able to play football together, but we can watch football together and cheer, he can watch me play while I make him proud

The event of his birthday has suddenly revealed so much to me, it is about to establish a deeper level of connection and closeness never before felt between us.
