RE: The True Meaning of "The Raven" and the Magic of Poetry

in #life8 years ago

Fantastic post! Thank you so very much for sharing. Coming from the Northwest Coast of North America, the mythological raven figure is a symbol of creation coming out of darkness and, if goodness comes out of it, it is usually said to be a mistake. Yet, it is only from a human perspective that such perspective of of good and evil exists... The deeper one goes into the darkness, the closer to one's own inner state uprises towards the light and the conscious, bringing about the lifting of the veil of ignorance into the great awakening beyond good and evil. Only in stillness can darkness carry this message to the one daring to delve in such fathomless mysteries. ;) Namaste :)

Thanks glad you like it. Interesting perspective. I think we also have a tendency to place human motivations on animals. It is interesting that birds from this family are often considered negative in various cultures.

While I don't consider ravens to be evil, I've personally witnessed a flock, consisting of something like 30 ravens, attacking a bald eagle about 6 months ago from today.

Witnessing it reminded me of a scene from the 1967 move, The Birds, which would have been more appropriately named if it were titled "Attack of the Birds" (just in case you have no knowledge about this reference).

I felt sorry for the eagle and, while it could have simply been a case of territorial birds casting away an intruder, my gut tells me that the eagle was eyeing some nesting chicks, or perhaps even made some swipes at, and/or managed to get its claws on, one or more of them.

Fascinating. They are very intelligent so it would make sense they might join forces to defend themselves.
