A day of 2 opposites. A great walk in a tranquile forest vs a trip to a Kids Indoor Jungle Gym

in #life7 years ago

Today was a day of 2 'extremes'.

The weather was great with a stark blue sky and a nice warm sun. We had a date set with another couple who also has two kids, so we were determining what to do.

The Gameplan.

We had agreed to go out for a walk (for the parents) followed by a trip to an indoor jungle gym for the kids. Our friends decided it was to cold outside to take a walk though. Therefor, before hooking up with them me and my family decided to go for a walk in the woods ourselves.

We parked the car on a nearby lot and there was an awesome bus parked there as well. They might be common sight in London, but not in the Netherlands. That's @rijkie in the back with the boys heading for the forest. Also, see that smile on my face ? remember that ...

It's been a while since we had nice even blue skies like this.

In the woods themselves, there was not a soul to be seen. ... wel at least not when I took this picture =D

Halfway along the walk, we came upon this awesome hut which obviously had to be checked out. It was pretty well build. Look at the size of that thing compared to my son.

Then it was time to go meet our friends and their kids at the Indoor Jungle Gym. Remember my smile from before ? It just turned sour. Not because of the friends of course, but because of the junge gym.

The Jungle Gym is a great place for kids, but no place for parents. I'm not sure if it's a global thing or just dutch, but this place is where you take kids when it's raining or on kids birthdays parties. It's a contraption through which they can climb and run an do and whatnot and they absolutely love it.

Eventhough the amount of screaming and chaos was a little bit less then usual (thanks to the weather I suppose) the seats are hard plastic, the lighting is stark Fluorescent and the coffee ... well... let's just say one could wonder if it should be called that.

The Jungle gym is most definitely not my favorite place, but I exaggerated my missfortune a little of course. If the kids are happy (and the were !) than I am happy. That compared with the great walk in the forest with the beautifull weather made for one great day.

@eqko overall great story, photography is awesome.

I hate the monkeytowns but the boys live them so what do you do .... you just Hide and hope time flies and they have fun!

I prefer a walk 🚶🏻in a real forest 🌳🌳 without screaming & nagging children 👦🏼👧🏼.

HortPark, part of the Southern Ridges that comprises Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, Kent Ridge Park and Labrador Nature Park, is a one-stop gardening resource centre that brings together gardening-related, recreational, educational, research and retail activities under one big canopy in a park setting.

It is also a knowledge centre for plants and gardening, providing planting ideas and solutions, and offering a platform for the horticulture industry to share best practices and showcase garden designs, products and services.

Every month, we collaborate with our industry partners and members of various gardening groups to organise gardening activities for the public. School collaborations are also run extensively to initiate gardening awareness and nature appreciation among young children.

Gardeners' Day Out, a monthly event, is an extension of our mass outreach efforts. It provides interactive and fun-filled gardening activities to cultivate the spirit of gardening in everyone. Great plant bargains and offers are also available at our Gardening Bazaar, which is held at every edition of our Gardeners' Day Out.

At HortPark, we also actively promote the recycling mantra, "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". If you have any gardening equipment or magazines to give away, do drop them off at HortPark. Other visitors may just find some use for them.

HortPark is popular with gardening enthusiasts, families, and community groups who yearn for a tranquil environment in which to relax, and is frequently visited by visitors who enjoy taking nature walks along the Southern Ridges.
