Would You Miss Me?

I’ve been a Stay At Home Mom ever since the birth of daughter 5 years ago and lately my soon to be 1 year old son. However, despite all of the one-thousand-and-one things that I do, nobody ever seems to appreciate it. I still get asked by friends and relatives (who all have mothers and are moms themselves), “So", pause, "What are YOU up to?" To which I always invariably answer with the vague and undefined, “Oh, nothing much”. LONG SILENCE. At which point, I can hear thoughts of “Loser!”, “Unambitious!” and “Lazy” running through their minds.

One would think that other women would understand but they are usually the worst offenders. Sometimes it bothers me, some days it doesn’t and some days I wish that I could be abducted by aliens so I can enjoy the peace and tranquility of outer space, with weightlessness as an added bonus, this option is very attractive.

Oh well, at least my kids understand and appreciate me. Or do they? What if I were really stolen by aliens? Disney's upcoming 3D movie, Mars Needs Moms got me thinking- What would my kids miss most about me when I’m gone? I thought about it and decided that surely they would miss the fact that I stay up all night with them when they’re sick or the fact that I’m their number 1 cheerleader, but the truth is that the top 10 things my kids would miss most about me (and I’ve compiled a handy list) are:

1. Nobody to shuttle them and their friends from place to place.
2. Nobody to stay up all night doing science fair projects.
3. Nobody to volunteer to do the impossible at the last minute for the class party.
4. Nobody to win the class a pizza party by buying only products with box tops on it.
5. Nobody to beg for them when daddy says no.
6. Nobody to keep Santa and the tooth fairy alive.
7. Nobody to kiss it and make it better.
8. Nobody to come up with the creative and fun ways to celebrate birthdays.
9. Nobody to find all the missing toys and stuff.
   And the number 1 thing my kids would miss most about me is this:
10. Nobody to play aliens and earthlings with.

So if Mars Needs Moms, sign me up! Hey, nobody said motherhood was going to be easy! We just make it look like it is- and that’s what counts!
