Suffocated by plastic
In our everyday life, we constantly use various plastic products and packaging. And just whenever I go to the store, it's almost disturbing to think how much plastic is consumed for unnecessary packaging.
A simple box of croissants or biscuits is first packaged almost individually and then put in the box, and then a box wrapped with the plastic foil,... Ok, I know that everyone should consider transportation, etc, but did people really become so spoiled that we need to have everything ten times packaged? Disregarding the fact, that after the first use, half the packaging is discarded in the trash.
I think that people are not even aware of the seriousness of the situation. Where are all these countless disposable sacks, which are intended for the fruit and vegetables that we buy in the store go? Are they burnt, buried, or just discarded in the nearby bush or forest? No one cares... Ok, the number of people worrying about the pollution by plastic is getting bigger, but just to slow.
So with just a few small steps, you can make your fair share with using less plastic. Check it out:
If you completely abandon "take-out" coffee pots, it would be ideal, otherwise, give up at least a plastic cap (and a plastic spoon). For a great alternative, you can use reusable cups made from recycled bamboo.
Whenever you have a product available in plastic or paper packaging, choose paper packaging. Either a dozen of eggs in the paper box, instead of plastic or just simply everything else.
Is the straw really necessary? Why? Because we're too lazy to raise a glass to your mouth? People who have real physical problems and need straws, this is understandable, the rest - don't use a straw!
Choose foods that are not packaged in plastic - choose a salad, fruit that is not in the package, and always keep your bags for fruit and vegetables with you.
Are you still buying plastic bags? At the very least, what we can do is to get used to and to go shopping with our reusable bags.
When you are planning a party, instead of buying plastic plates and accessories, you'd better buy the paper ones.
And the final thought for today:
- Don't drink water or sodas from the plastic bottles. Buy yourself the glass bottle, which you can carry with you all the time.
It is hard making changes, while we are at the end of the "plastic" chain, but my conscience will be clear if I know I did my fair share in the war against plastic.
Despite the serious topic I wrote about, I wish you a pleasant rest of the day, and a good night.
Very well written! I couldn't agree more with you, plastic is really threatening for our planet. Good advices btw :)
Thank you @aramat12. I'm glad you like them.
The benefit of using paper over plastic is not really different for the environment. Paper takes more energy to make and recycle, uses much more water to make and recycle, is easily spoiled so not reusable, is much heavier to ship when its new and when its trash, doesn't biodegrade in landfills because of a lack of oxygen, is made from trees which produce oxygen and remove CO2 from the environment... so as you mentioned reusable is definitely the way to go!
You have the right point. But the only thing I will oppose is the thing about it being not reusable. For us, I can say that all paper is used for starting the fire inside our heating furnace. So the cycle isn't lasting to infinity. But we dispose of it with benefits... But still, you made a great point.
its a difficult situation for we , the #consumer , get yelled at using #plastic containers- bags in particular in California- when it is the manufacture that makes ALL this stuff---they should not have made it in the first place. They fabricated it and blame us for using it - we did not make the plastic -why not tell the food manufacture (among others) to stop producing it) @angrytwin
Indeed. Vicious circle, which is trying to be solved from the wrong side. But still, if you have a clear conscience I think you did enough. If others would think the same, maybe someday things will get better.
