Nicknames
Emily. That’s pretty simple, right?
Why does everyone feel the need to shorten that?
“Em” is apparently my nickname, and I don’t understand why. It’s 3 letters less, and barely shorter to say. I’ve gotten over it though, my friends all call me Em, especially online, and there’s nothing I can do about it.
Zamora. Pretty easy to pronounce, maybe somebody might find it hard to spell or something. Z-ah-more-uh. Simple.
It’s Zamora, not “Zam”
Some of my online friends have referred to me as “Em Zam” and I just don’t get it, I, as the person they’re talking about, don’t even understand who they’re referring to most of the time, why would other people?
I know, I know, my username thingy on Medium is “Emikazam,” but that’s just a play on words… sort of.
For those of you who don’t know, I’m a magician, card tricks and stuff, and a while ago I asked my friend for a username I should use and they told me Emikazam. It has Zam representing my last name, Em representing my first, and it sounds like “Alakazam,” I found it lame, but, I can’t think of something better. That doesn’t mean any of those things are my nickname though.
I’m probably lucky to have the nickname I do though, I’ve seen other ones that make me feel horrible for the name owner. For example, why do we call “Richard” “Dick?”
It shortens the name, but it doesn’t relate to the name at all. I don’t understand how that started, are Richards just generally dicks? Is that why?
Some nicknames don’t make sense too, Liam instead of William. I understand that the last 4 letters spell Liam, but, who started that? I can’t think of any other nicknames that take the last letters of someone’s name.
Should I have the nickname Ily? Should Richard be called Hard? Should Jennifer be Ifer? What is this shit?
Emily is a very nice name.
Thanks <3
