Family Connections in Washington County (formerly known as Parents as Teachers) is a parent education program and early childhood family support designed to serve families since they learned to expect it until their 27-year-old child. This fun and educational program is available. to all families in Washington County without and free of charge!
The Family Vision Connection is that all children in Washington County will learn, grow, and thrive to realize their full potential. Research has proven that the brains of children grow and expand more during the first years than at any other time in a person's life. To make our vision a reality, The Family Connection's mission is to provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children thrive optimally during the early years of life that matter.
When you enroll in The Family Connection, you will be paired with a trained Parent Educator who will visit you at your home at a time that suits you. Your Parent Educator will listen to your ideas and questions and work with you to decide on a plan that best suits your needs as a parent. Your Parent Educator will observe your child with you to help identify the strengths and interests that will help determine the focus of your visit. Visits always include time to share information and review changes or inquiries about your child's development, activities and ideas to share books that parents can use during and between visits to promote healthy attachment and age-appropriate development.
Family Connection also offers weekly play groups, classes on parenting topics throughout the year, and nightly family activities that include fun for the whole family..!
Parental education is the first form of preventive care to protect children from adverse childhood experiences. Our hope is to normalize parental education for all socio-economic backgrounds as community efforts will help to realize a healthy childhood experience.
