Grow Your Own Unicorn
Grow your own unicorn
How many times have you seen a promise like this?
Just add water & wait.
It comes in many forms from promises of '5 easy steps to untold riches' to the DIY project of your dreams coming true with this one simple trick.
Despite being proven wrong over and over, we still want to believe that we can do everything with little to no effort.
Why do we allow ourselves to fall for it?
Who wouldn't want to do something easy to make a dream come true? The truth is that there is no return without risk, this applies to pretty much everything but especially to financial returns.
Why else would the risk/return ratio exist?
There is no easy way
There are easier ways to do most things but generally things will include some effort. That effort is usually commensurate with the reward.
Next time you want to take the 'easy' way, keep these 3 things in mind:
1. Be realistic with your expectations
Is it too good to be true? You know what they say about things that are too good to be true.
2. Why isn't this just the way people do things?
Secrets don't last long in the age of information, if something claims to be the easiest way to do XYZ - why isn't it the norm?
3. What could go wrong?
Anything that can go wrong will go wrong and it can happen to you. So maybe it's worth thinking about.
Here's a picture of some unicorns that I didn't grow:
Majestic, right?

Yeah it's a weird looking thing. It did grow a little more but the horn is still a bit 'turdy' not sure I want the kids calling it uniturd though :)
