Intermarché stores have promoted Nutella pots, up to 70% off.
They proposed, last Thursday morning, pots of Nutella 950 grams to only 1.41 euros instead of 4.50 euros. Which provoked hysteria among the fans of this star product. Some rays were robbed in 5 minutes instead of 3 months usually ... In some supermarkets, there was a queue of more than 200 people to wait for the opening of the store. There were even fights on the shelves.
In the Loire department, "scenes of riot" took place everywhere.

The craze is born on social networks. A girl posted a tweet Monday to announce the promotion, tweet that has been shared more than 16,000 times.

What does the Ferrero brand mean?

We are in such a world that Ferrero, owner of the Nutella brand, has for its part disassociated from this operation and rejects the fault on the Intermarché store.

We are in a world where fake news is hard to beat. A false rumor said that Ferrero recalled 625,000 pots of Nutella contaminated with Lactalis. The brand had to multiply the press releases to challenge this information.

Why is Nutella so successful ?

Nutella is a family product, relatively expensive and rarely sold. This product is denounced for its sugar content (50%) and the presence in its composition of palm oil (20%). This ingredient is stigmatized for its effects on the environment.

For my part, I think what this Nutella case reveals above all is the poverty of part of the population. The riots did not take place in the rich districts of Paris. The jostling mostly concerns popular classes. The situation, stresses a real problem of purchasing power. Nutella symbolizes this little bit more than the poorest families can not afford.
In popular families, being able to feed one's children, and even more to spoil them, is a source of pride.
