Effects of legalization of Marijuana

Back in 2012, two U.S states, Colorado and Washington legalized marijuana for recreational purpose. There were two groups. One feared that it will create problems like impaired driving, youth getting attracted and addicted and crime rate will increase. Others thought that it will help in economy boost and decrease in crime. It's been five years since the implementation, so who was right? Let's have a look.

Crime:
According to post legalization surveys, crime rate increased in Washington. An increase in unlicensed distribution of illegal marijuana was seen.

Impaired driving:
Statistics released by Highway Safety showed an increase of traffic incidents of 14% in Colorado and 4% in Washington.

Economic boom:
Both Washington and Colorado saw a huge increase in marijuana business. Total tax revenue in 2015 was $135 million.
