Where does the real change begin?
Once upon a time, a group of people gathered to discuss the way forward and somewhere down the line, someone asked: where does the real change begin? Unable to answer, they all left one after the other until the person who gathered for the meeting decided to throw the question back at the person who asked it. The answer to the question was "the real change begins with us."
Nobody can change you unless you decide to change yourself. A lot of people do not understand that the word change is something that has a personal definition and as such they go about with a confused notion of what change is and never realize this until they are asked to define the change. Change is some thing we all seek, but hardly ever take the pain to specify in details the kind of change we need.
The word change also cuts across different areas of our lives from our relationships to the general and even the social and economic scene. I will try and take us on a journey on what change means and why it is essential to accomodate change.
A lot of marriages and relationships in the world today end up in divorce because people are not willing to accommodate change, they simply seek convenience and glorification of self.
The reason why I say this is because usually, when two people come together, there is a mix and explosion of varying characteristics and if one person is not willing to adapt and adjust where necessary, if you think of only yourself, your interests and what simply pleases you, be prepared for the greatest disappointment the world has ever known. A little selflessness has never hurt anybody.
Sadly, in our world today, all most people usually think about is their interest. It simply has to benefit them and if it is even going to inconvenience them in the least bit, they will simply shy away from it. That is a wrong mentality, it is wrong because if we all adopt that mindset, it will get to a stage when we will need help and none will be rendered because it is inconvenient.
At the end of the day, we should remember that karma plays a large role in who gets what and we only receive the same measure we deal out. Let us not feel sad when we receive less than what we feel we deserve, simply look back and discover that you also gave out far less not only to those who mattered to you, but to those around you.

In my experience, people don't deserve anything, so when we go out and work to receive something, we should expect to receive from nothing to a lot. It's like a bet that the conditions will be fulfilled.
When I joined Steemit, what made me different from my peers was that everybody came here thinking that they were going to earn quick money for almost no effort. Just post and earn. I instead assumed from scratch that I would be receiving nothing if I didn't work.
And as you said, the change comes from ourselves. People wanted others to come and check out their posts and vote them. I instead came out and started commenting on other people's posts, attracting people to my profile. And it worked out pretty well.
So for the people who are getting frustrated about anything. Don't be, work and maybe you'll receive, but don't think for a moment that you deserve anything, you work for it, and if it comes, then it's alright, and if it doesn't, then it just means that you either have to keep up or quit.

I'm speaking from my experience.
Since I'm a student of computional engineering, I sit a lot, and it caused a spine deformation called hyperlordosis.
I told myself, if you don't fix this and start working out, you'll suffer from pain in the future.
And I started working a lot, eating healthy, stretching every day... And now my posture is better than ever and I'm stronger than ever.
You can do anything with a power of will.

True and real change starts from within. Until we as individuals begin to effect the change we want to see in our society only ourselves, then change begins.
The problem is most of the time we always ask of others what we cannot give. We expects others to treat us as important when we treat those around us like garbage.
Remember, karma is a b*tch. It always has its way.
