Hi doctor, I am a medical student and this is an issue that we have discussed extensively in our university, especially because my country (Venezuela) still has antiquated and very abiguas laws on the matter. For my part, I have come to the conclusion that, as you men- tioned very well, everyone has the right to CHOOSE. An important premise of medical ethics is not only to delay death or cure illness, but to improve the quality of life, and that includes helping our patients to die as dignified as possible. I have seen many die in deplorable, panting conditions, agonizing horribly and we can do nothing, just expectant at a humiliating end. A difficult subject to talk about, but very necessary.
