The best thing I have ever done
Looking back over my life so far (Hey, I'm 50. I'm allowed!), I have been contemplating the best things I have done in my life so far.
Thankfully, there are some highlights!
- My uni days, culminating in 1) my music composition degree and 2) my PhD in comparative law
- My band and all the songs we wrote and performed and recorded for so many years (and are still going)
- Getting married to my wonderful, powerful wife
- Writing a novel - which is presently with a publisher
- All my friends, of which, thankfully, there are many
- My dogs, Matty, Huxley and now Merlin
- Moving into the best neighbourhood in the best city in the world
- My career, and having a job which I love and which actually makes a difference
These are all contenders - and I am grateful for all these experiences, and others too.
But for me, the biggest, bestest, most brilliant thing I have done in my life so far is to have a child with my wife. My daughter is my everything. My family rocks.
I am so glad I have a daughter - and it almost never happened (lads, the biological clock isn't fiction: it's reality).
And I am grateful for all the decisions, big and small, which led me to my life as it is right now.

Happy family your.so sweet your family, like this your family.
thanks
This is more happy in the world that his family is always laughing with it.
All times keep the family in the forefront
Here here... Family is everything. You need a legacy and what better thing to leave to the world than a well balanced, powerful and confident daughter.
I have heard that having a kid changes you. I dont know if im ready for one yet or any time soon. but it would be greatt, having a mini-me and doing the things I love.
I cant think of anything right now, as regards some of my best decisions. I think every decision I have made has led to the person I am today and im proud of who I am and the person im becoming.
but I will give it more thought and maybe I will come up with a list as well.
GOOD
I find your life so impressive and
you're filling up the happiest moment of your life.
Aww what you said is very sweet. I don't have kids yet, but surely I want to have them someday.
What you say about the biological clocks sometimes worries me, because I'm a medical student and as you maybe know this career is pretty long, and sometimes I just think if I'll have the time to have children before it's too late. Because I don't want to have them now, I'm so young and I don't even have a job, and I would like to end my career first because the schedule is very heavy and I wouldn't have the time to raise a child while studying.
50 sounds like a good time to look back on one's life, and it sounds like you've had a pretty good one :) I really don't mind anyone of any age looking back at their lives, but there is something rather hilarious listening to 10yos discussing "the good old days" or 11-12yos ranting and raving about "schoolkids these days" XD
Lovely sentiment there @drwom. It really is the relationships that we invest value into that provide the best yield in terms of quality of life. I'm glad your dogs make the list too as furry friends are often unreated. Thanks for the uplifting words. Hopefully they will help to steer those more focused on materialism down a happier path.
