New Zealand travel blog - 3.6: something always goes wrong parts 3 & 4
Well, this holiday has certainly lived up to the truism that something always goes wrong on holidays. In this case, 4 somethings. Hopefully that will be enough to satisfy the gods of chaos and we can enjoys the rest of the trip relatively hassle free!
Do you like the picture?
This is the view of Rotorua on Christmas Day 2017 from café at the top of the sky lift.
You would be forgiven for thinking all had gone brilliantly between my last post and this one, but such a conclusion would be sadly inaccurate. Holidays are a great lesson in moving on from the bad stuff and embracing the opportunities of the moment, aren't they?
For us, that means moving on from the car accident yesterday, where we were rear-ended by another car who had been rear-ended after we had to stop suddenly to avoid rear-ending the car in front. So, a multi car pile-up. That's a new one.
Even though our car was a rental and has now been not replaced, you might almost believe nothing could really top it for sucky holiday moments, and for my family you would probably be right. But for me? Not so much.
Because after the accident I went to the hospital emergency (good news - total cost of $5 in medication) to discover what I had thought was an ear infection was in fact a case of (by now) fairly developed chicken pox.
Win.
At least New Zealand, like Australia, has good vaccination policies and I am at low risk of infecting anyone.
So, gods of fun, laughter and frivolity, you've had your japes at my expense. Well done. Very good.
Please let me enjoy my holiday now?
Thank you.
Best wishes for a happy Christmas.
