Australia now has a Minority Government.
Today is an important day in the life of Australian national politics. After the resignation from Parliament of the former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, the ruling Liberal Party of Australia (liberal in name only) lost a by-election.
By a whopping (expected) 20% swing.
Since Australia's federation, the largest swing against a sitting government in a by-election was 13%.
As a sidenote, the Government also lost its one-seat majority, but will still be able to govern with the support of independents (sitting members of Parliament who hold no party affiliation).
We really don't like this government. The good news is that it will soon be gone.
Happy days.
