New Hobby - Wood Working Projects!
As you may or may not know, I love working with my hands. When I was young I was usually in the garage/outside riding my bike or messing around with my dad's tools. When I got older I started helping him do repairs on their cars, and anything that needed fixing in the house such as plumbing or lighting. Recently, I have gotten into woodworking. I have a love hate relationship, because I enjoy doing it but I do not enjoy warped boards...#OCD. I wanted to share a few of the projects I have done since I started doing it, because I can see this becoming a new hobby.
@alovelymess had an idea for me to make a sign for a Christmas gift. So I did!
I started out with an old fence post and I cut it into three sections. Then used a couple of scrap strips on the back to build the sign. Next I used chalk on the back of the paper, and used a pencil to transfer the chalk lines to the wood and colored it in with a paint pen. It turned out pretty good, I think!
Also for Christmas I made a picture hanger for my wife. It was an old fence board like the other one, and all I did was put a coat of blue paint on it then sand it to give it a weathered look. After that I wrote on it with the paint pen, and strung a piece of wire across it to hang the pictures from. She loved it!
Before our Seattle trip, I made a couple of props for @gringalicious to use in her photography. I'll make a post about how I made these soon.
Right before we came to Tennessee I found a free cart at a yard sale. It had a couple of particle boards for shelves. I had a pallet I had gotten not long ago, so I decided to make new shelves. I cut them all down to length then put them together similar to how I did the props and sign, then squared them up on the table saw. after they were together I used a torch to burn the wood which kind of highlighted the grain more, then used a stain to make it darker. This isn't finished yet, so when it is I will be sure to share it.

In Korea, Wood work is one of the popular fantasy for men as a job after retirement. Someday in the future I also want to learn wood working. Happy woodworking! Upvoted

I noticed the board you made for @gringalicious in one of her posts, and actually commented on it. I thought it was a lovely wooden table she used but she informed me that it was actually a board you made. It looks stunning.
I would love to start doing woodworking but I'm seriously lacking in tools. Will have to start small and just build from there.
Oh, and I hear you on the OCD. I have the same problem. It's actually worthy of a posts on its own!
Oh, thanks cool! I will have to search for that.
Most our the tools in the garage came from yard sales and Christmas presents, lol.
Haha, it could be a good post! A pretty funny one too.
good job you've done here, man..
Looking forward to the finished one..
Thank you! Me too lol.
This looks awesome! I am no handy worker but I am a scraper. I found a wooden board sigh that says pancakes last week and I plan to put it as a wall decoration in our kitchen. The first sign is hilarious.
Thank you! Scraping can be fun too, never know what you'll find!
That was a gift to my in-laws, haha. Thanks!
