RE: Kiwi In Moscow (HD) - Episode 2 - Russia Remembers World War II. Hosted by Suzie Dawson

in #life6 years ago

Your video brings back so many memories for me -- I used to live in Moscow and even worked on Tverskaya Street featured in your video. How Russians view World War II is very different than how Americans view World War II. For people living in Russia, Nazi Germany posed a real existential threat to their existence. Tales of hardship are legendary, like the Siege of Leningrad, when the Germans were literally starving the Russians to death. And there are so many cities known as "hero cities" for their role in pushing back the Germans. I'm sure it was very powerful to experience those emotions first-hand and to see how much reverence people in Russia today have for the military veterans of World War II.
